There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spark Plugs for 2013 RT LTD

Has anyone out there changed the spark plugs and wires on an RT LTD? I am considering buying a set of BajaRon irridium plugs & wires and trying to install them myself. I am somewhat Leary of taking this on, as the service tech at my dealer (good guy by the way) tells me that the front plug is a bear to get to and takes about 2 hours to change. Has anyone else been told this? I will appreciate all comments.

It should not need new ones till 25k+ miles. If it does it should be a warranty item. What makes you want to do this? The reason for the front plug issue is the air resonator above it. Removing it makes it easier but that takes time to R&R..

I use this setup to change my spark plugs.3 inch extension on a flex spark plug socket, use red locktite to keep extension in socket.Front plug can be changed from left side just have to remove panels. If I bought another Spyder I would pull plug boot and put lots of dielectric grease in boot.I'm showing a flex ratchet in picture but a shorter ratchet works better.Changed my last set of plugs in under 1hour

Thanks a lot for the information. What size socket do the plugs require? I know of at least 2 sizes for different plugs.

It took me hour 45 once I had the right configuration. The front plug is the bear for sure. Its all feel and touch and the short socket wrench is the one to use for sure. I can probably do it again quicker now but have a 2014 and not sure what the challenge will be to swap plugs on it . A knuckle skinner for sure but due able .

5/8 spark plug socket, come as a set of three from our princess auto, store much like your harbor freight got them on sale for $10.00.When I put the 3 inch extension in the socket with red locktite I warmed it up with heat gun and it set up rite away if you don't the extension pulls out of socket and its hard to get it off plug

I know this won't help you, but...This is a nice side effect of removing the airbox and installing the kewl metal air filter kit. The engine is opened up so that getting to the spark plugs is a piece of cake. I changed my wires and plugs to the BajaRon upgrade with no problem.

Spark Plugs

Does anyone know the Spark Plug # for 2013 RT

BTW WITH THE IRIDIUM PLUGS IN THE 2013 RT

The manual calls for NGK KR8BI spark plugs, so I am willing to bet that is what is installed from the factory. They are an iridium plug.

THE SERVICE MANUEL STILL SAYS TO REPLACE THEM AT 22500 KL, IS THIS AN ERROR???

HAVE ANYONE ASKED THE THE DEALER IF THERE IS AN UPDATE FOR PLUG REPLACEMENT.

I just had the 14,000 mile (22,500 KM) service done on my 13 RTS SE5. Spark plugs were to be replaced. However, I told the dealer not to replace them as I have already done so with BajaRon's plugs and wires kit. The replacement plugs from Ron are NKG IridiumIX DCPR8EIX plugs, which are different from the stock plugs.

Okay I'm curious....what is different between the two of them? Did you smear that heat conducting paste on the threads prior to install?

I really don't know what the difference is. BajaRon could tell you, since that is what he recommended.

Basically the Laser Welded are an OEM factory plug. The Iridium IX are the upgrade model of that plug. They Laser weld an Iridium tip to the center electrode on the OEM plug. Because it is welded you have 2 different metals and the center electrode is larger. The Smaller center electrode on the IX plugs take less energy to jump the gap.

Both plug models are good products.

Question for anyone?? Has anyone put more than 22500 klms on their Spyder without changing the Plugs???

My plugs may not need it, but I will be doing my 14K in a few weeks and plan to change then with the Baja Ron plugs and wires which I now have in my possession.

Thanks Ron!

Bob

Did mine on my 2012 RTS last October. Took me three hours total. That was depaneling, removing the stock air box, replacing plugs and wires from Ron, reinstalling stock air box and repaneling.
