I was doing a lunch run for the folks in the dry cleaners where I worked after school.

I was a senior in High School. It was a brand new school and some details were still being built. I was outside helping pour an apron around the new flag pole we had just erected for the US flag. I thought the kids who came and told us were joking. I was just kind of numb the rest of the day.

I was sitting at my desk in junior high.

The principal came over the PA system and said "may I have your attention please? ", then repeated it, just as he always did. We waited for him to go on with his message but he just turned the radio up, tuned to KXOL, Fort Worth, just as the reporter said that it was confirmed that Kennedy had been shot and was at Parkland hospital, just 15 miles east of us. The teacher started crying and they sent us home. It is burned into my memory,


I remember it as if it were yesterday.
