• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Welcome, JohnRtl

Many thanks for adding me to your forums.

A little introduction and background. I live in the UK, grew up with tandems, motorcycle & sidecar units as our family transport. Cycling was and still is an important part of my life. As a young adult I had two motorcycle combinations - a Cossack Ural with left hand chair (UK) and later a Yamaha XS650 with a Squire RS1 sidecar - until the family grew too big for these!

Fast forward 18 years, my first large solo motorcycle was the ST1100. I’ve had 4 ‘Pan Europeans’ covering a total of about 230,000 miles, touring two up, often with camping gear. The last two were ST1300s. I have been a regular contributor to the ST-owners forum for many years.

Then came the ‘accident’. Putting the ST1300 on its centre stand as I always do when it is in the garage, my calf muscle gave two loud cracks and rendered me feeling rather old and doddery. That was July. Still recovering - balance not yet back to normal, other muscles had become weak, we started thinking of what to buy next, and remembered taking a photo in 2014 of a Can-Am parked at the top of the Kaunertal Glacier ski road in Austria.

So we went hunting and got ourselves a 2021 Spyder RT Ltd with 8k on the clock. I’ve still not ridden one - ours arrives tomorrow - and I have read the reports that they are weird to ride - which I ignore. My experience is that if you put any motorcyclist on a sidecar combination for the first time, they will be unable to make it turn a corner! Yes, 3 wheels are odd to ride at first, yet I loved riding mine. I certainly won’t be jumping on the Spyder and expect to be able to handle it automatically.

I expect a similar learning curve with the Spyder, and wanted to be part of a forum of people who know.
