• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What is the number of hours required to assemble an RT?

I have searched the site and I can find no answer to my question. I had thought of trading my bike for a new one but the added cost of transportation and assembly time was significant. I declined the offer. But I would still like to know the average assembly time for an RT and setup cost. The dealer quoted assembly/setup cost to be $1,900.00. Would this be in line with normal cost?
 
I just checked the paperwork for my 2024 Spyder RT Sea2Sky.

There was no assembly/setup cost listed, but the Freight and Dealer Prep was US $1,625.

I did pay $400 to the delivery person to load my new Spyder in an enclosed trailer, and drive it 80+ miles, and then unload it at my house.
 
Has anyone tried to get one still in the crate and assemble it yourself?? Why aren't they fully assembly at the factory except for the windshield and battery installed? I know there's shipping, but how much more would it really be?? It's just a big scam, we know most dealers don't go over them that well, which is bad! The dealers in my area have a company assemble them and the same with the Honda dealers in this area.

Back in 2014 when I bought my new RT, the only extra charge was a paperwork processing fee of about $ 100.00 .....Mike :thumbup:
 
If a Can Am dealer can entice a technician into their service department for a career move the cost to the end customer is justified. Every dealer is looking for help continuously. Hiring skilled labor is notoriously challenging in today’s job market.

This type of set up is all about the footprint
and the cost of shipping.

Manufacturers have been doing this for years.

Until someone can make something better.
The bottom line is always about the $$$$s.

As for the assembly hours I have no clue.

A few more thoughts.

BRP doesn't sell directly to the public. You have to buy the Spyder from a dealer, who receives the crated bikes from BRP and then assembles them before selling them.

The crate is simpler to ship than a fully assembled bike considering the long distances involved between the factory and the dealers.

Along with the battery and windshield, they also have to add all the fluids.

An interesting question. I have NEVER paid for shipping or assembly on any Spyder I have purchased. I also got free installation of any pre-purchased accessories. It does get thrown in as part of the pricing, but is also a part of the deal.

These days, and I speak of after 2020, I hear more and more about people paying for these items. Some dealers are more mercenary. Shop around. And remember, it's not what is ON the actual invoice, it is the $$$ that you pay to get the item "out the door." There are many games being played on the purchase of any big ticket item. Do your due diligence and you may save a buck or two here and there.

I waited for my RT to be assembled in 2016. It took two guys a few hours, as I recall. The dealership did know what they were doing, fortunately.

I am not sure about it, but if I was a betting man I would say if you could get one straight out the box BRP would have a giant case of no warranty behind that! And no matter what, any dealership, regardless of what your paperwork said has charged something in the setup of that unit. There are a few hours of assembly to do, and the guys should be paid for the labor, come on!!!

I watched a dealer unpack/uncrate and new Spyder and it came almost completely assembled. If you can purchase one delivered to your door in a crate, the rest is easy.

Just be aware that the delivery and dealer set up fees are part of the built in profit to the dealer and Can Am, because the actual profit to the dealer on a new machine without those fees is really low. I've been told it's only a couple of hundred dollars, which isn't enough by itself to keep the lights on at any dealership.

I never paid Assembly/Shipping on 16 Jet Skis and All but my 5th Can Am Ryker. Once Covid hit it became shipping and assembly for my last Ryker in 2022. Remember the "Nice to have" or Luxury fee we paid during Covid?
