Trading in my Ryker, it's time for an F3-T - what issues should I be looking for/concerned about?

I'm likely trading my 2019 Ryker 900 Ace (24,000 miles) for a 2017 F3 T (5100 miles). It will absolutely need new tires as the original, stock Kendas are on it and pushing 10 years old by the date code. I've read the many posts and will be putting car tires on it, if purchased.

What issues should I look for/be concerned about when viewing and test riding this bike?

Thanks for any help you offer to make sure I'm not purchasing a problem.

I started off with a 2019 Ryker Sport, traded that in for a 2023 F3S, now I've got a 2025 F3T. I haven't had a single problem with her, my She Beast is in hibernation in my basement/garage until Spring.

If it's at a dealer get them to give you a BUDS2 report printout. If it's private party, make sure the oil was changed at the 3000 mile mark. If you've only ever ridden a Ryker, you will likely think the F3 is lower performance at first. Give yourself time to get used to it and you won't miss the Ryker! Also, there are quite a few ways to improve the performance of a stock F3 when you're ready. I absolutely recommend good car tires. Search the forums here and you'll find enough info to keep you reading for years!

Thanks for the replies so far.

My Ryker had M2 shocks all the way around, and that was the best money I ever spent. So shocks will probably be one of the first upgrades I would consider. Since the dealer (non Can Am) probably won't improve the trade value, I removed the M2s yesterday and re-installed the factory shocks.

Keep the help coming!

When doing the BUDS check, that should let you know if the front pulley recall has been done. Other than that, you should love it. With it being a 2017 F3T, you also get the larger rear sprocket that helps with acceleration.

I would start off with an upgraded sway bar before moving to shocks. If you want more throttle response, a Pedal Commander or Pedal Box will help that.

I have a 22 F3S with Elka 2 front shocks, BajaRon standard front sway bar, and a Monster FI Stage 2 for a nice jump in performance. ;)

Dan, I had a '16 F3T and loved it... until I went the "car tire" route and it rode much harder. My 2c worth is that if you're a hard rider, then maybe the car tires will be best, but if you are an easy rider, stick with Kenda's.

Congrats on the purchase, as I just purchased the same year and model about a month ago. Check the VIN for open recalls on Can Am’s website, make sure that the rear air suspension holds air and functions properly as its manually adjusted not auto. Everything else is spot checks that it sounds like you did as far as tires and hopefully visible hoses. ENJOY!!!

BUDS has no idea if the sprocket has been replaced. Just look at the sprocket, they are color coded. If the sprocket is black or white, it's not been done. A 2017 F3T does not have the larger rear sprocket. Only the 2016's got that. The F3S continues to get it, but ONLY the F3S.

You bought the wrong 'car tires'! There are a great many tires that fit the Spyder, only a few actually work well. Some work FAR better than the junk tires BRP supplies.

I know the 2017 F3L gets the smaller rear sprocket, but I was told by my mechanic that the F3T in 2017 did get the larger rear. That is why he suggested getting a F3T and adding the top box in 2017. I know the F3 series in 2016 got the larger one, even on the F3L. But I could be mistaken.

All 2015 and '16 F3 models got the large sprocket, none got the top case, not even the Limited.
In 2017, the Limited got the top case, both F3T and L got the smaller sprocket just like the RT, and have remained so since that time. ALL F3S models have had the large sprocket and that model still does. The base model F3 has changed several times and has been discontinued.

At any rate, the only F3T or L model that got the large rear sprocket was the 2016. You can add a top case to either of those, but they are hard to find and no longer available from BRP. The current top case is not a direct fit as they changed the F3 to use the same top case as the RT.

jcthorne, that's good to know. I have a 2016 F3L special series and love it even without the top case. Had 2 of the 2016 F3T styles and they were great too. I like the large sprocket. When I first got the F3T, the biggest thing I noticed was that I could climb slight grades still in 6th gear without downshifting in places like the Cherohola Skyway and Foothills parkway. It really didn't affect my gas milage that much either. I still get around 220-240 miles on a tank with the F3L.

My girlfriend and I both purchased new 2018 F3-T's with the larger 89 tooth rear sprocket. That year the F3-S and F3-T were the only F3's that came with the larger sprocket and the last year for the F3-T. This is one of the reason's I will keep my F3-T for a long time.
