• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2018 RTL GPS circuit. Blew a fuse? Can anyone give me a pointer towards which one?

Just hooked up an dual USB and 12v plug from Slingmods. Needed to use some extra wire to reach the GPS2 connector. I used a little larger (14g) than I should've. Did butt splices. The blue lights came on briefly and went off. Turning the key on produces nothing. Pretty sure I've blown a fuse. I see nothing labeled GPS or GPS2 in either fuse block. Nothing in the manual and I don't have the tech guides. Can anyone give me a pointer towards the blown fuse?

Hey Kenny. In your manual in the back where the fuse boxes are. Right side fuse box - right side as you are sitting on the bike - fuse F6. DC Plugs. It’s 5a. If it blows a second time with nothing plugged in or hooked up, then you’ve messed up your wiring somehow, and created a short. Go back and recheck your work. Feel comfortable replacing that with a 10a fuse if you want. That circuit is fused very conservatively. If you ever wanted to run a little air compressor from the 12v plug, 5a won’t cut it. Leave position F7 empty.

Violet and yellow, actually, but yeah. Getting time for me to rustle up some grub. Back at it tomorrow. At least my LED headlight conversion works as designed. That's some bright light!
 
Yeah, if you miss seeing LEDs, you could be a distracted driver. :) All it takes is one.
Actually the pre 2020 Spyders have better seen head lights vs the 2020+. All LEDs and they look like a RR Engine coming at you or following you. The new machines, we have one in our riding group have very narrow light beams, get a little off center and the light more or less disappears.
 
Premature boast on my part. :( Put everything back together and was sitting on the RT fiddling with the phone mount and USB cable. To that point, the blue lights were lit and it did charge my phone when I hooked it up. Attempted to start the engine and that's when the 10a fuse blew. I THINK. Troubleshooting...probably my wiring is suspect.
 
Actually the pre 2020 Spyders have better seen head lights vs the 2020+. All LEDs and they look like a RR Engine coming at you or following you. The new machines, we have one in our riding group have very narrow light beams, get a little off center and the light more or less disappears.
Hopefully better seen. Actually, this pre-2020 Spyder was equipped with halogen lamps, that old yellow glow. The right front was out so I elected to replace 'em all with LEDs. Have yet to change the fog lights out. Looks to be a tad more difficult than the headlights. Webeesee.

Double checking. If you want that power to be switched ON and OFF with the key, the F6 position has the fuse installed, the F7 position is empty.

Hey Ken. I think we need to reset. To begin with, you have been referring to this power connection that you used as GPS2. I just assumed that you were calling the 12v accessory connection a GPS connection, as that's what most people use it for. However, there is a dedicated GPS power connection on the right side by the gas tank ground bolt, that was used for the BRP GPS accessory harness. Its purpose is to integrate a GPS into the bike's power and audio system. On earlier years, that power comes from the radio. I don’t have a specific 2018 drawing, but there’s no reason they would change that. So, if you have tapped into that connection on the right side, that is absolutely the wrong place to try to run your Slingmods accessory from. Not enough power capacity.

So, if that's the case, or even if it's not the case, disconnect the wires that you connected, power the bike up, and let's see if everything still works, including your cluster display and radio. If something isn't working, just refer to page 143 in your Operator's Guide and check the fuses in your right and left side fuse boxes.

The accessory power - what is listed as DC Plugs in your fuse box - that you need to be using based on your power requirements, is either the one up front behind the rubber plug in the frunk, or the one on the left side under the seat behind the left side panel. You need to remove the panel. That one has been historically hard to find. It's nestled in the harness covering with a tie wrap and just maybe has some caps on the ends. You've got to dig for it. That one, and the one up front, are the two that are powered from fuse F6 in the right fuse box. The connection up front is easier to see if you remove the battery. Personally, I'd just use that one as it's easier to find.

Once you tap into the correct connection, then that 12v power will be switched on or off with the key if F6 is installed and F7 is not installed. It is powered up all the time is F7 is installed and F6 is not installed. In the right side box. The fuse combination just directs power to the accessory circuit from two different places - either the switch or directly from the battery. You never have both fuses installed at the same time.

Thanks, Doug, for the easy to understand explanation(s). I've decided to use the circuit near the battery for several reasons. I kept thinking to myself, wrongly perhaps, that the GPS connection used noticeably smaller wire(in my mind, that indicated not enough power), probably 20 guage or smaller and the accessory I'm trying to use has 18 guage or thereabouts. Also, the leads on the accessory are of a length that didn't reach back behind the gas tank without adding wire.

So, since it's too hot to be working in my garage--not air-conditioned, sadly--tomorrow morning, I'm gonna replace the battery, which I had been planning to do already, find that user accessory circuit while I'm down there and tie in there. Should fix my problems.

Thanks again for your patience and explanations. How's your summer going so far up on the lakes? Hope the temps have been a little more moderate than here in TX. We are in what I call the 'hot and drys'. It quit raining and the temps are in the upper 90s. Afraid we're gonna have to wait til late September for any relief.
 
Asking this here because it's concurrent. Anyone recognize this? A breather of some kind? Think I dislodged it while reseating that unwieldy headlight adjustment dongle. Noticed it on the floor next to the RTL when I got through putting right headlight back together.

Yep, that’s the vent that goes on the rear of the headlight assembly. According to the parts diagram, each light assembly has two of them.
