Any suggestions on good Ear protection for lowering wind noise?

My phone connects to my hearing aids via Bluetooth. The problem is, putting on and taking off you helmet dislodges them. I just rely on the comm system helmet speakers.

Yes, my hearing is probably shot from fifty years of riding without earplugs and the first twenty of that without fairings and using open face helmets.

The problem with relying only on hearing aids is that they offer no hearing protection against road noise, right?

That depends on both the type and if over the ear type, like mine, weather you use open or closed cones. If using the closed cones, the vast majority of sound comes through the hearing aid microphones. With modern digital hearing aids you can tune out what frequencies it passes as they have the ability to function as a kind of band pass filter. You can assign different frequency response curves to different named options which you cycle through or set from the app. If you want a pretty quiet environment you can turn them right down on the app in which case with the closed cones they make a reasonably OK earplug. Sort of.
