How do you mount/dismount

I got my RT-s earlier this week and I am still wondering how to get on and off... Getting on is a little easier once I have my left foot on the left peg and trying to position my "bad" arm somewhre on the handlebars.... getting off is always a pain: either I rub the seat with my right foot or do a kind of dancing up & down on the left leg while going away with my right leg in the air:opps::opps:.
What's the best way?

I use the left foot peg as the "stirrup" and swing my right leg over the "saddle". I dismount in reverse order. IMO, balancing on your left foot and skipping back like you do is a good way to pull your muscles and/or worse.

First of all :congrats: & :welcome: I get on and off my Rt S on the left side , only because you mount and dismount a motorcycle on the left side and I am also left handed so it feels more comfortable for me. I rub the seat too with my right foot as I do not have full hip rotation on my right hip so I cannot get my right foot high enough to clear the seat. I have tried to mount and dismount on the right side too I can magage to do it but it feels uncomfortable to me. I am a new rider so I don't know if there is any rule about mounting /dismounting from a spyder but if there is someone will tell me :lecturef_smilie:. You could try mounting/ dismounting the :f_spider: from the right side and see if it is easier for you:dontknow:

:welcome: and :congrats: on the ryde. Left side mount for me--I step on the passenger floorboard and throw my leg over the seat.

I do the same as has already been described, but there is not a right and wrong way. Experiment a bit until you find what works best for you. Nancy usually prefers to get on from the right side, due to the relative lack of mobility in her right knee. Do whatever it takes to do the job.

Left side using passenger foot rest

I mount from the left side, and after adding the Utopia driver's backrest, I found it a little difficult not to rub the new backrest with my foot. :gaah:
I started using the passenger footrest and it is a lot easier. :2thumbs:
I should have figured that out before now. :ohyea:

Just more proof here that I am the oddball :joke:

I always mount from the right. This by design...

You see the delay in the startup (Having to hit the mode button) and the fact that a full sized helmet does not fit in the left rear compartment.

So what I do is this... Turn key... Get helmet (From right side cargo box) .... Pull out gloves and beanie cap... Place Helmet on seat so it does not fall... By now I can select the Mode button... Place foot on brake peddle... Fire up bike... Now as bike is warming up... Put on beanie cap and Helmet... Strap in... Mount... Plug in headset... and away I go... :2thumbs::doorag::spyder2:

Otherwise I feel like I am taking laps around the bike, and I already did that with my pre-inspection

I can say this for certain... Trying to take a running start toward the bike from the rear and leap frogging into the seat (like we do horses) is not healthy!! :D:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::bowdown:

I mount from the left also using the passenger peg. My right leg has partial paralysis thanks to a two-wheeler in 1979...

I also have the Corbin back rest and that extra height allows me to swing over. I get on first and then I help my wife on.

Okay, I'll get serious. I'm like, IWN2RYD. I too mount from the right. I have an IPS Key (and leave the key in), and when I go to turn my spyder off, I put the parking break on, put it in 1st gear and click on the "kill switch". Consequently, when I go to mount, the first thing I do is turn the key on, turn the kill switch (which is on the right hand side) on, climb on from the right, hit the park brake and by that time the mode switch is ready to rock n roll. I just fire her up then.

Besides, if I mounted from the left, I'd be looking for the kick stand. (couldn't resist)

Sometimes waiting on MODE really gets to me.
Any way to turn that off? :gaah:
Not that I have heard of... And this is the very reason I have this cycle of events... To not sit there boiling and yelling in my head... Come one let's go!!! :gaah: :shemademe_smilie::roflblack:

The real trick is when you have a passenger and you're trying to avoid giving her a roundhouse kick. Sometimes I wish I had adjustable foot pegs because my inseam is 30" on a 73in body. How our Enabled SpyderLovers manage is an inspiration to us all.

Just to make you guys who mount from the right feel a little better, police are taught to mount and dismount from the right...at least the Michigan State Police taught motor cops are.

:congrats: on your new ride. You didn't say or indicate in your profile as to whether you have an SM5 or SE5. For the
auto (SE5) remember you want to put it in neutral before shutting down. Otherwise if you mount from the left
you will need to first get on and then depress the brake to get to start. I like to start my bike most times first before
mounting. I like many others now that I have a back rest use the left passenger mount with my left leg to rise above
the seat and then just move right leg over and down on right side foot
peg. ( now I have a board ).

right side. The right side I no longer have in the stepping position, I have folded it back up to show more of the chrome :D

My dog DooLittle also has a ritual she follows. She enters her carry case the same so she is always facing out the right
side of the ship from the very begining

Motorcycle Officers mount from the right hand side because there is moving traffic on the other side. I mount from the right hand side because my left knee is worse than the other bad one. Most motorcycle riders mount from the left hand side. There is no "right way". I use the rider pegs because it takes more effort to use the passenger pegs (at least for me).

You are right on about the reason for motor cops to mount /dismount from the right. Odd that you would find the right side easier for you with a bad left knee. Both Nancy and I have more trouble maneuvering the bad knee, so she mounts right with her bad right knee, so it doesn't have to bend as far, and I mount left because that is my worst knee. Like I said, everybody has to find what works best for them. :D

getting off to me its easery to put my left nee on the seat and then dismount.on the left side also.puting your nee on the seat makes it closer to the ground when you step off.:2thumbs::clap::chat:

Hmmmmm, one of the things that's so great about the Spyder is that the passenger can mount before the pilot. Hubby has terribly flexibility. If I mounted first, he'd never be able to get on. He uses the front set of pegs. But, from reading what others do, I'll have him try the passenger pegs and see how that goes.

The weird thing is that alone, I mount and dismount from the left. Clearly a holdover from riding horses. But when there is a passenger, I mount quite differently. From the right, I put my right foot facing the side of the Spyder, right hand on the handlebars, then I step over the Spyder while facing it. This is the only way I can get on and clear the seat. I've tried doing the reverse from the left side. My new right hip just does not have quite the flexibility that I have on the left. So I can't clear the seat with my foot.

Everyone has got to find a method that works for them. I am much less coordinated mounting from the right hand side. But, hubby offers me his right hand for support. So, that's helps. Passengers were never an issue when riding horses!!!! But if you think you don't like brushing the seat with your foot as you swing it over the saddle, you can just imagine how much a horse likes you brushing his back as you are getting on!!! nojoke Sometimes you end up looking more like:  or :yikes:
