• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone tried any of these with thier bluetooth systems?

hoping to kill two birds with one stone as I dont believe I will be able to hear my in helmet sound with ear plugs89
 
JMHO... I am not a big fan of wearing earplugs while riding... even driving! Good speakers or speakers inside the helmet... that's ok because I still can hear my surroundings.
I love to hear tunes, but if I want to cancel out outside sounds, I want to do it where I know that I am surrounded in a safe area... not on the highway doing high speeds and everyone else going as fast or faster than me.
Noice canceling headphones while doing that is just looking for trouble on the road! Again, JMHO
 
I wouldn't recommend noise canceling earbuds either. Noise isolating on the other hand works well, to reduce overall volume, so you can still remain well aware of surrounding noises. I keep the music volume in a range where comfortably audible, without drowning out the back ground.

I can't see how some do it without earplugs, outside of a short ride around town, but I see rides with no helmets and ear protection all the time...

I use earbuds with my Sena and for me it works great on the ST. You get a lot more wind noise on the ST compared to the RT so this combo works well.
 
I havent tried noise cancelling earbuds, but have used earbuds with my SMH-10. The earbuds alone block out the "unwanted" noise (Wind, engine, etc...) while I can still hear my surroundings (as long as the music is at a reasonable level).

I now use the in helmet speakers, and earplugs. I get the same results, but it's easier to get the helmet on and off, and I don't have to worry about the wires yanking the earbuds out while riding.

I also can't ride long distances, or high speeds without earplugs. When finished, my ears are ringing so loud, that I just know long exposure to that noise will cause permanent hearing loss. I'd rather volunteer a handicap while riding today, than to be forced to live with a handicap tomorrow...
 
The main thing I use the sound in the helmet for is to communicate with the rider on the SENA. Being a bit of an audiophile, music on the bike is nothing more than noise, and I would rather hear the traffic.
Problem I have at the moment is at speed it has to be turned all the way up to hear it. I know thats not right because sitting idle, that loud hurts my ears.
I also cant find ear buds that allow me to put my helmet on easily and leave the ear buds in my ear properly.

Again, speakers inside the helmet are your best bet. SENA's headset speakers are pretty decent as long as you have them set up nice and snug inside the helmet.

Either get another helmet to get the SENA speakers more snug into your ears or get a half helmet so you can remove earbuds easier. But earbuds on a full or 3/4 helmet is not an easy task... duable, but not easy to put on or remove until you get a hang of it.

You may want to give these a try. I molded a set with my ear buds in and it does a great job of keeping them in place during a ride or putting on my helmet. Taking off the helmet is a different story. :p
 
Try earplugs with the helmet speakers. Believe it or not, the music actually sounds better than trying to listen to it without earplugs. It takes the "tinniness" out of all the sound.
 
I'm with the nay's.!!

regular foam ear plugs work best. The Scala's adjust volume with the speed so music and intercom work fine. The best is to be able to hear whats around you at any speed...:thumbup:
 
Being a pistol enthusiast, I shoot at the range, a lot. As a result, I have a pile of foam ear plugs that I wear under my noise cancelling earmuffs when I shoot. I always keep a supply of the foam plugs in my glove box and wear them when I ride. I have a Bluetooth setup linked to my phone so I know if I'm getting a call, but I pass on the music, as I find it distracting while I ride. The foam plugs sure cut down on wind noise . . . as a result, even on the highway, my windshield remains down . . . unless it is raining.
 
in Florida its illegal to drive (any vehicle) with ear plugs in BOTH ears

but..... given road noise, wind noise, etc, I have started using ONE ear bud when wearing a helmet

I have both SENA and SCALA systems and while I find the SENA speakers a lot better than the SCALA speakers, I still find them both lacking when wearing my 1/2 helmet

I used a set of noise canceling ear buds all the time.... they work amazingly well at cutting out the noise. Same ones I use when mowing on my zero turn, leaf blowing, etc.....

I think mine are Audiovox or something.... will have to check and let you know... but they're awesome. Sometimes I use them without any music.. just to have a more peaceful ride.

I've run them direct to my Mix-It audio unit, direct to my iPhone, thru my Sena headset, etc.... and they worked great no matter which method I used.

I think when used without music playing, they are far better and safer than standard earplugs...but if you're blasting the tunes through them.... be careful and don't crank them up too much.
