• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shakedown cruise

Took the RTS SE5 for a shakedown cruise to El Paso TX from Tucson AZ. Seven hundred miles round trip. Now have a total of 1450 miles. Only real complaint is the small gas tank. Had to stop in every town for gas. Terrible gas smell after stopping and especially when stopping at stop lights and stop signs. Made no difference if tank was full or a quarter of a tank. Had to leave garage doors open for several hours after returning home to get rid of gassey smell. This sucks! Also I have never heard from BRP after puchase for a welcome package or warranty card or anything. Is this normal? I got the two year extended warranty on a promotion but have nothing to show for it or to prove it??? I have called the dealer (Apache Motorcycles in Phoenix) and they keep saying I will get all of this from BRP in a new owner package. Has been over seven weeks now since purchase and nothing yet. Did anyone else get this new owner package or am I and the dealer dreaming???Jack

It sounds as if you are over filling the gas tank. That will cause this type of problem and can be really hard to fix without changing the carbon canister.

This happens regardless if the tank is full or near empty. If I am overfilling wouldn't the cannister empty at least in 20-30 minutes after filling and some fuel is used. It would seem likely that the fuel in the cannister would not linger for hours after overfilling. I have basically the same system in my Polaris Ranger and my F650GS BMW twin motorcycle but do not notice the extreme gas smell for hours after filling. The gas smell is so strong after parking in the garage I am concerned with fire or explosion. I don't dare close the doors for fear of this. After gas smell dissapates and I ride the next time without refilling and tank capacity below 1/2 I still get the same thing???????Jack

I bought my 2013 RT LTD in October. Received letter with warranty card in late November. Just received welcome packet a few days ago.

Here's the thing..!!

the welcome packets are sent out in mass mailings like pins and may be on a quarterly basis as well. You will get it. Your warranty is attached to your vin# and any time the dealer punches in your number it will appear. This applies to anywhere you may go. The gas smell is more noticeable on these units because of the proximity of the tank and evap system and the enclosed engine compartment. They are known to have this smell and some have found that the evap system does not work as well as others. Filling the tank slowly and only till it splashes at the vent holes in the neck helps a lot. Tank seems small to many but I for one find 185 or so mile a good time to stop and stretch a bit...there are some threads on how to eliminate the canister if you want to...nice ryde hope you do enjoy the views and people did a lot of riding in TX...

That canister is full of charcoal (I think!). Fill it with fuel, soak the charcoal, and you'll have to remove that canister to eliminate the smell...

We have our 2012 RT for 13 months and no welcome packet yet. Got the 5000 mile pin though.

Would recommend checking with your dealer to make sure they registered your unit with BRP. Usually three months or less on the welcome packages--since they seemed to be on a quarterly mailing basis.

No, it actually may never recover. If it has been filled with gas, it may need to be replaced.

Gas smell

I've never had that problem with my 2012 RTS. I would venture to say that there is a problem, possibly the canister others have mentioned. I would definitely take the bike in for service/repair as it's under warrenty? Sumpin ain't right! :dontknow:
Good luck, let us know what solves it.

Very poor indeed! I do not know what's in it but if someone else got one then I want one. It has been seven weeks since purchase and I did recieve the B.E.S.T. two year warranty extension in the mail today. Guess I will have to wait for the new purchase package. Patients has never been one of my virtures. At my age you need to get things done and move on before your times up.An add on to my trip to El Paso. I visited the War Eagles Air Museum in Santa Teresa NM wich is only about five miles west of I-10. Great Museum with airplanes, cars and motorcycles and well worth the stop. Minus one on the bucket list!Jack
