• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

One of the most heinous emblems of the 20th century was brought down. The Berlin Wall. The wall that Ronald Reagan demanded be taken down, finally came down. Families were reunited, freedom for millions. All this actually came from a mistake.

A mistake helped lead to the fall of the Wall. The flood of East Germans and West Germans to the Wall, which led to its ultimate collapse, came after East German Politburo member Guenther Schabowski on Nov. 9, 1989, mistakenly announced that East Germans would be allowed to cross into West Germany effective immediately, according to National Public Radio.(from USA today)
 
Sometimes a single rather small movement/event can change the world, setting into motion huge changes. This was a change for the better.

is I'm glad it came down. We had family on the other side and may never have gotten to see them had it not...they are all gone now but did reunite...:thumbup:

The cold war defined the world in which I grew up. Younger people just don't understand who momentous it was that the wall came down and the Soviet Union collapsed. To me, it felt like maybe the world really could be free.

Nice post. I was in Berlin in June '63 when Pres. Kennedy gave his 'I am a Berliner' speech. I was fortunate to actually see him. The crowd was packed like sardines.

I have a photo of myself standing at Checkpoint Charlie.

I always knew that the wall would come down one day; I just did not think it would be in my lifetime.

Can you imagine the sense of freedom that those East Germans must have thought at that moment?

Three momentous things I never thought I'd see have happened in my lifetime. The fall of the Berlin Wall, the demise of the Soviet Union, and the Good Friday Agreement and subsequent voluntary disarmament of the Irish Republican Army . . . forty years ago, who would have believed any of those things would ever happen in our lifetimes?

Never give up hope . . .

I helped push that wall over! I was there, with sledgehammer, and have chunks in the closet. My Grandfather escaped east Germany during WWI. I joined the Army for that very purpose....to free the oppressed. HOOAH!
