Anyone purchased from an out of town dealer? Is this common? Any concerns?

Has anyone purchased from an out of town dealer from their website? Is this common? What should my concerns be? This my first Spyder purchase.

I purchased an end-of-year 2024 Spyder from iMotorsports.com, after reading a few positive remarks on this forum. My first Spyder purchase too, and my experience was a good one. As for what your concerns should be, that sort of depends on what's important to you - for me, it was a matter of just thinking of every question I could think of. The salesperson on the other end of the line (Mike Kaye) was great, as was everyone else I dealt with, and their website and reviews were solid, so I reached a comfort level.

There were a couple of extra elements I had to figure out (wire transfer from my bank to theirs, and an out-of-state title), but they were helpful, and the transaction and DMV business went pretty smoothly. The bike was sort of dirty when it arrived (having been shuffled on and off the enclosed trailer as other bikes were delivered across the country, and there had been some weather too, apparently), but it came fully set up per the full BRP checklist, including alignment, and I found no issues with the bike whatsoever once I cleaned it up.

Anyway, not trying to make an advertisement out of this - no affiliation here - but just to say, I found it a good option for me. Good luck!

I too purchased my RTL Spyder from an out of State Dealer. Long story short, it was a very good experience.
Just remember to do your homework and get all your questions ready.

I will do this again when I am ready.
The wife said that we are good to go.

I second iMotorsports. They were extremely easy to deal with, and had a good selection of "last year's models". In my case, I bought a 2024 model at significant savings over getting a '25 locally. I wanted to go local, and I was willing to pay up to $1.5K extra for that (on some of the '24s they had), but add on fees made the total $$ substantially higher than that!

Very often that's where you get your best deals, if you're willing to travel a little. Because dealers are so spread out, some aren't willing to negotiate, thinking you're a captive audience and won't go anywhere else. If you do your homework, you'll be fine and save a few $$$. Also, if you're thinking of getting the 36-month BRP extended warranty, there's no need to buy it when or where you purchase your Spyder. You can buy it anytime, from any dealer, as long as your original 24-month warranty hasn't expired. Also, there are two dealers that sell it for around $700. And don't be fooled into buying the dealers "maintenance" warranty/contract. Those only benefit them, not you!

Over the years, my wife and I have owned six new Spyders and one used one. Only one was bought at our local dealer. All were negotiated over the phone, and we didn't trade any.

Good luck.

I traded my 2022 F3L in on a 2024 F3L over the phone with a dealer several States away. I drove to it, and after several hours and paperwork, I was headed back home. My first and second Spyder's were done the same way with different out of State dealers, and then too, no issues.

iMotorsports here as well. Shipping of the new bike is normally included in the deal. I believe they also offered a one way flight to pick up personally as well, but I can't guarantee that. The only downside was having to wait for a truck coming this way. I believe it took three to four weeks for the Spyder to arrive. They are up front about that and make no delivery date guarantees.

I have bought 2 Spyders from iMotorsports in Illinois and each time I had a trade in. Also had free shipping on both new Spyders. It was a very smooth transaction and they gave me a fair price on my trade in both times. I would buy from them again. Plus they also have the best price in the extended warranty by BRP.

They told me it could be up to 6 weeks. It took a couple of days over 2 weeks. Very happy with the results.

I did. Bought a used 2 year old RTL Silver with 1400 miles from a dealer 50 miles from home. I do have a somewhat decent dealer 6 miles from my home for any extended warranty needs.

I honestly don't see any issues doing this.

My local dealership didn't have an RT Limited in stock, so I had to travel to Elk Grove, CA to purchase one. It was still in the crate, so they took a few days to assemble it, and then it was shipped directly to my house on a flat bed trailer.

Bought my ‘17 F3-S Daytona as a new, never-titled, sub-80-mile unit in 2022 from an Indiana dealer. Three or four phone calls to check on a few things/extra included parts, a couple of emails back and forth, and a call to HaulBikes - about 3 weeks later it showed up at my door in deep South Texas in very good condition. No real hiccups along the way. Just ask every question you have, and don’t assume anything.

I have not yet purchased a Spyder from an out of state dealer, but that is probably going to happen in September or October. One I have seen advertising seems to have a good reputation here and their prices are very good - especially when compared to what's available here in SoCal. I am not adverse to flying to the East Coast and riding the bike back. My plan is to ride it to Nashville for the 600 mile break in service and then continue back to Los Angeles.

I have purchased other bikes and cars out of state and have never had any issues. I always research the dealer (if possible) and spend a lot of time making sure we have all the details correct before I start sending money. A signed sales contract with all the specifics and prices is essential for me. Once I receive that, and it matches what we have been agreeing to over the phone, then sending money is the easy part.

So I checked the Acrobat PDF copy I have of my 2024 Spyder's Operator's Guide.

==================
Pages 57-58:
OPERATION DURING BREAK-IN
A break-in period of 1 000 km (600 mi) is required for the vehicle.
During the first 300 km (200 mi), avoid hard braking.

During the first 1 000 km (600 mi):
– Avoid full throttle acceleration.
– Avoid prolonged riding maintaining constant RPM.

If the cooling fans operate continuously during stop and go traffic, pull over and shut off the engine to let it cool off or speed up to let air cool off the engine.
After the break-in period, your vehicle should be inspected as per the Maintenance Schedule.

Page 119:
Break-In Inspection
We recommend that after the first 5 000 km (3,000 mi) of operation, your vehicle
be inspected by an authorized Can-Am On-Road dealer, repair shop, or person
of your own choosing. This maintenance is very important and must not be
neglected.

The Maintenance Schedule information starts at the bottom of Page 119.
At the top of Page 120 there is a Maintenance Overview table with three colums.
Column 1 - Calendar Years
Column 2 - Odometer
Column 3 - Regular Duty

At the top of Page 120 is where the actual schedule listing the services that need to be performed are listed. It has four columns:

Regular Maintenance
Column 1 - Lists the service that needs to be done (filter change, oil change, etc.)
Column 2 - Break-In 5,000 km (3,000 mi)
Column 3 - 1 year or 15,000 km (9,300 mi)
Column 4 - After the 1st year or 30,000 or 45,000 km
(19,000 or 28,000 mi)

Basically it's telling you that the the service intervals are mileage or time, whichever comes first.
==================

So the 600 mi "break-in service" isn't a service. Instead, the break-in period is recommendations about how to operate your Spyder.
The first service isn't until a year has passed or you've ridden 5,000 km/3,000 mi.

You can download an Acrobat PDF copy of the Operator's Guide here:

And having said all that, if you want to change the oil and filter and other service tasks at 600 miles it won't hurt the Spyder.
It will only hurt your bank account.

I bought a brand new (4 miles) 2024 from iMotorsports in Chicago. They were exceptional, and $1000's less than I could find here locally in Fl. No gimmicks, and very easy to deal with. Call or submit an on line request, and they will give you the OTD price via email, which was exactly what I paid. They shipped my bike to my house as part of the deal... I've heard that if you pick it up in Chicago (then ride to Nashville etc) they will work an airfare deal with you in lieu of shipping. Great company!

I bought my 2024 F3-S from iMotorsports as well. Went very smoothly, no added fees, transparent. My F3-S wasn't old stock, but it was still in the crate. My salesman sent me pictures of the crated bike, as well as the final assembly for approval before they shipped it directly to my front door.

I did ask to make sure that the pillion seat cover was included and shipped with the bike. Thinking this small part could be easily overlooked, I emphasized this several times to make sure they included it. Guess what, it was forgotten and not included when the bike showed. The salesman owned up to their mistake and FEDEX'ed it Overnight to me. Overall, I am happy.
