• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is this metallic knocking in reverse normal? 2011 RT

Boy, that's a tough one. My gut reaction is no, not normal. But more information would be helpful. Can you post audio of the sound?

If it's the 'Clunk' that happens to some degree every time you first engage Reverse or First after first starting the engine, then Yes, that's Normal, but if it's a 'clunking noise that goes on', or something that actually 'knocks' more than once/continuously, then I'm with Ron - it's likely not normal and we need more info, preferably audio or video.

But, for the first one, just do a Search on the word 'Clunk' (Search is up toward the Top Right corner of the page) with the 'Search titles only' box ticked; and have a read of all the threads about how Constant Mesh Gearboxes HAVE to clunk when you first start up the engine (so that the engine is turning) and you then select a gear (when the gearbox isn't turning) - that first gear selection, First or Reverse, will ALWAYS clunk to some degree unless you can somehow get around the Laws of Physics! ;)

There's quite a few threads on this if you do that search; here's one to start you off:

OK, knocking in my vernacular, is a continual or at least repetitive noise. For example, who knocks on a door only once each time they visit?

If we are just talking about the clunk that occurs when moving to any gear, forward or reverse, from neutral. Then this is not only normal for the Spyder. But for every constant mesh transmission ever made.

I'm sorry, I forget that not everyone is aware of this. I guess I've been riding too long!
