• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

After 3 years of planning, I am riding Route 66 starting June 8

Some of my best rides (not all, though) came with a sleeping bag, a pocketful of change, and no plan.
How many miles did you do?
How many days?
How old were you?

I did a little trip when I was 23.
The miles were 400.
I did a two day trip. I got rained on the way home. That was the only ruff part
of the trip.

@tntnj, I am sorry to hear about your wife. Prayers for you both. Getting old is not graceful or very pretty. Thank you for taking the time take and post these pictures. Did you get to do any sightseeing around Tucumcari MN or Clines Corners?

My comment was about the timing of when would you get to enjoy the trip. I don't have a place to store the Spyder in California.
Also if the Spyder has damage that can be a real pistol.

That is my Tip.
I get what you are saying.
I meant, ship the bike (or a car) to a hotel, and then pick up the bike there to start your ride. The bike, if shipped in an enclosed trailer by an experienced bike shipper, should not have damage (you can be at the hotel the day of the bike delivery). And if you fill the trailer with other bikes going your way it will be less expensive. It takes 40+ hours (at normal speed) from the West Coast to the East Coast. If a hotel can take and hold your luggage ahead of time, most will allow you to drop off a vehicle and hold a key for you if you are not there yet.

In the back of my head a thought is rattling around about riding the Washington full chrome model Spyder to Arizona sometime next summer and returning to Washington with the Arizona dark model that has had chrome pieces added. Shortest route is around 1500 miles and the scenic route on the Coast is around 1850 miles. I did the scenic route in May 2024 when I rode the Champaign one to Washington, which included hitting the German Shepherd in California coming out of the AG station at the border on I-10. That was a 6 day ride.
