• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should I be able to Over-ride a Cruise Control Set speed?

On my previous cars (with manual throttles), the cruise control actually moved the pedal to hold the set speed. My Goldwing does the same thing, except it's the grip rotating, not a pedal. With the Spyders 'throttle-by-wire' setup, I think the grip is relaxed when the cruise is in control...

2015 RTS Rear wheel/tire replacement - does it HAVE to go to a dealer?

After changing the tire, you can check the balance yourself. I use a pair of jackstands. Put the axle through the wheel, support the ends on the jackstands. Rotate the tire a bit to get the bearings moving freely, then slow it down manually. Note where the valve stem is when it stops. Give...

Manual Trans Riders - does downshifting/engine braking hurt?

Back in my younger days, when I had cars with manual transmissions, when approaching a traffic light, I would downshift "to save the brakes". I was told that it was a noble effort, but it costs a LOT more to rebuild the engine when it wears out than it does to replace the brakes. I then...

Best seats - are Russell Day Long seats REALLY that good?

Waaaay back in 1979, I went to the shop, Bill Mayer built up a custom seat for my KZ1300. 20+ years later, I wanted a Day Long seat for my Voyager 1300, but it had been sold to Russell, so I had Russell make one. Not quite as satisfied with it, but they had insisted on using the heavier foam...

    Saw this FS on Ebay

Well, I would say that your guess would be wrong. I offer as evidence, my post in this thread: https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?148595-Red-Dust-of-Death-Recall-Front-Sprocket-Recall-FINALLY&p=1646393#post1645693 Look for post #252 or #270 if it does not show right away. .

Anyone else want a Higher Touring Gear?

Larryd (post #16) is on the right track, but in the other direction. What is the possibility that a smaller rear sprocket could be installed? Yeah, it would require a matching belt, but there's probably something out there with a slightly smaller belt. He also hinted about computers...

Electric Brake Controller - any ideas on how to add?

Codykoo (original poster), I have a question about your brakes. I know that you have factory-installed brakes, but the information that Fatcycledaddy posted in post #19 is rather important. Take a look at the trailing arm on your axle. It should be within a few degrees of horizontal when...

Anyone else want a Higher Touring Gear?

It's not engine RPM that is cutting your mileage, it's road speed. Aerodynamic drag goes up with the square in the increase in speed. The power required to overcome the drag goes up with the cube in the increase. I have tried this on many different vehicles over the years, gas mileage tends...

What's the best LED's for rear bulbs and turn signals? 2015 RTS

For anyone else that is reading this and finding some cheap 1156 or 1157 bulb replacements, be aware that you HAVE to have the 75xx replacements. The reason is the little pins on the base of the 75xx series are not directly opposite each other. The sockets have the offset slots to hold them...

I know, it's been nearly beat to death, Tires

I like your train of thought, but please be aware that it's not quite a linear relationship. That is, there is some strength in the empty tire, and additional air will add to it. That said, your formula is close, and is also the foundation for figuring recommended pressures for tires that are...

    Scam using scare tactic

The updated software on my new-ish iPhone has the ability to "Silence Unknown Numbers", which sends the call to voicemail. I have enabled that feature. Since I work in a hospital network and don't know all the phone numbers that my customers might use, I have also changed my voicemail message...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

Crazy thing is, I was not looking for it. After replacing the fuel pump (under warranty), some of the lights I had added were not working. I had removed the side panel to trace the wire I had added, and saw the loose flange. When the sprocket was removed, the flange was just a bit loose...

Brake lights work with key off - is that right?

Not sure about your '11, but on our 17, the horn also works with the key OFF. By the way, if you would like to turn your headlights off sooner, when you turn the key OFF, turn it back ON, then OFF again. The rear lights still stay on, but the headlights are off. .

Check out this Landscape trailer mod for loading Spyders!

Looks decent. I presume the blocks inside the trailer are to help prevent bottoming out? .

Front Pulley, Red Dust, and no outside flange! Are there 2 types of pulley?

That would be ME. :ohyea: Tried to copy the pictures from the post, but seems I'm not smart enough to do that. :opps: I'll see if I can find them again and attach them here before the editing time limit. What I saw when I opened up the side panel: Removed the sprocket: Had it welded...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

My wife's '17 RT had a fuel pump failure in June. Called a few of the somewhat local dealers, found one that could get it in the next week. I asked them to check the sprocket while it was there. They said they checked it, it qualified for replacement under the Service Notice (they did not...

Gas strut for trunk on the RT

Wheels, wraps, lights, horns, ... etc., etc. are not necessarily design inadequacies. Those are just adjustments for personal tastes. Having to improvise a system to keep your trunk lid or seat up while refueling is not something you CAN do, it's pretty much something you HAVE to do, and...

    Home Made Dog Trailer

I wish we could have taken our pups for rides, but the trailer that would fit 2-4 Great Danes would not be good behind a motorcycle. Nice work on the trailer, but have you done anything to minimize the posssibility of exhaust gasses gathering in the trailer? .

Gas strut for trunk on the RT

I ordered struts from Amazon for the seat and trunk for my wife's '17 RT. They arrived over the weekend while we were out of town, will attempt replacement tonight to see how they work. EDIT: Installed the struts. VERY easy job. Doing both of them took less than half an hour, and that was...

First time spyder owner, Got some issues/questions.

Ilion? We were near there just last month. Went to buy a lift in Blue Mountain Lake. Turned north in Utica, so we missed you. About your ride: most of your questions have already been addressed, I'll just offer my observations. Your first question was about noise from the belt. It tends...
