• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Doesn't DESS work well as a security device?

Insurance companies have sophisticated procedures to rate each vehicle, with consideration given for any and every claim-deterrent feature on that vehicle. The agent has no leeway to discount extra for something already rated. (Your insurance company asks for your VIN. Modern computer systems...

Doesn't DESS work well as a security device?

No, I am not saying the switch is a weak design. It has an inner flap that closes nicely when the key is removed. What I am saying is untrained people who don't know to remove that key first should not be allowed anywhere near a Spyder with a water dispensing device! And we poor saps who know...

New Guy on Left Coast - looking at buying a Ryker or maybe Spyder, but which model?

As BLUEKNIGHT has pointed out, you CANNOT lug the engine with the SE6 (or SE5) transmission. The computer is programmed to disallow it, with the automatic downshift feature.

Doesn't DESS work well as a security device?

Yes, it works extremely well. UNTIL IT DOESN'T! My story: After a full-service oil-change, etc., my dealer's steward did the usual wash job. But failed to remove the ignition key first, allowing water to run down into the switch. Upshot: No start. DESS unit shot! Replacement covered by...

    Where did you start?

My first was a 1947 "Famous James," an English 5-hp (unknown cubes) 2-cycle thumper Villiers (French) engine. No battery. Magneto in (exposed) brass flywheel. The breaker points were inside that flywheel, and in the dark of night you could see the glow of their sparks while operating. They...

What’s your average MPG using what Octane Fuel?

I burn mid-grade E-10, ride mostly one-up, not heavily loaded, and use cruise-control everywhere (to not aggravate my arthritic hands). Life of vehicle (109,000 miles): 37.35 Last 6,500 miles: 38.20 Last 9 tankfuls: 39.27 ..... (Because of my new K&N Air Filter? I dunno.)

Advice Please - Want to get back to riding.

I'm sure you know yourself better than I do, but HEY, don't sell yourself short! I am only just beginning to feel that maybe I should write the same statement, but I'd have to change the "68" to "almost 83". And I have NO plans to quit in the foreseeable future... So don't sell yourself...

Gas strut for trunk on the RT

That was Post #19 back in 2018. Now that replacement strut has failed also. I rummaged around in my shed and found a little odd-shaped piece of 1/4in. board that wedges in and holds the lid just fine. I used a Sharpie pen to draw a vertical line where it fits perfectly... total cost: $.00...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

Engineering Change (called EC in mfg industry). They happen all the time. This one solved the problem during the 2019 model run. From an earlier post in this thread: Affected vehicles were manufactured between April 15, 2014 and April 15, 2019. ... not all MY 2019 VINs are affected - as those...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

You've ignored my totally logical explanations of pulley/sprocket and wallet/billfold. I'm done. :bdh: Peace, friend! ;)

A new tire I found & am buying it

Thanks, I'll hunt for that button the next time I try. I didn't see it before. My Michelin isn't really worn out yet, it still has as much rubber above the wear bars as there is below the bars, and all the rain sipes are still fully evident. But my inspection and renewal is in July, so I...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

I carry a billfold. A wallet was (is) a long thing that carries the bills stretched out flat, and is carried in the inside front pocket of a jacket. Back then, only richer people wore jackets; poor people didn't even have bills to carry, maybe only a few coins. Then along came Mr. Levi...

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

Well, that's only because all those folks haven't read my post yet! (JK!) Seriously though, why have two different words if they don't mean something different?

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

Not likely... a safety recall means all vehicles with an unsafe condition. The cutoff is when the OEM corrected the problem.

Red Dust of Death Recall???? Front Sprocket Recall - FINALLY....

Here's the difference: A pully is smooth, like a V-belt driver. A sprocket has teeth (or splines).

Dealer told me there is a 'Stop Sale' recall on 2016+ models - is this true?

That's good to know, since my 2015 makes a funny "chirring" noise (under load) that sounds like the front sprocket area. But I doubt BRP has my current address.

A new tire I found & am buying it

Yes, Mike, I know that. But the website did NOT give me the option to state the tire I wanted without first entering Vehicle information. I couldn't get by that requirement....

A new tire I found & am buying it

I didn't get the phone call, so they sent me an email. I replied to it, and then got another call with the info posted above. Here's the email I wrote in response to theirs: Hello Monty, I just discovered my phone volume was accidentally turned off. The tire is not for my Buick, but rather...

A new tire I found & am buying it

Hi Mike, based on your posts here I just ordered a Riken from Tire Rack on-line. Then I got a phone call from them stating, "I can't sell you this tire because Can-Am wants you to buy replacement tires only from them... so we're canceling your order." Did you get your tire from them okay?
