• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

100,000 KM (62136.8 miles) fix for the GS/RS

As far as I can tell from reading this forum, there are only three of us who have had the odometer reset to zero. Lamonster should be right on the edge, since he reported 60,000 miles at the end of December. The fix is too late for the three of us, but sounds great for everyone else. I will...

    100,000 miles

Congratulations Doc: That makes three of us now with more to come soon, I hope. It's too bad your engine couldn't make it the last 10,000 miles. That would have been a double milestone. Some day I want to hear the story of your engine and its replacement.

    Oil Leak

I had the same water pump leak. Now I know there are two of us.

    201X mileage as of today

As of December 31, 2010, Spyder 2009 SM5 = 86,645 miles. This means I rode 50,545 miles on this Spyder in the year 2010. My annual mileage has not decreased as I grow older. I can hardly walk, but I love to ride. In 2010 I took off nine weeks from riding due to the weather being too cold (three...

Fuel Filter - Replace at 5 years or 30,000km (19,000 miles)

I replaced the fuel filter at about 30,000 miles on my first Spyder. Then I cut the old one open to see how much dirt was in there. It was perfectly clean. I have yet to replace the fuel filter on my second Spyder - just about 87,000 miles. I am thinking I might do it at 100,000 miles.

Ball Joints - Needs 4 replaced at 30,000km?

I am just short of 87,000 miles on this Spyder with no indication what-so-ever of any problems with the ball joints. I did replace the brake discs on the front. It is easy to test for warping of the discs.

    Valve Adjustment

The work was done at 84,000 miles. That one valve was probably out of spec. for awhile. I can't remember when the first inspection was done. I think it was about 40,000 miles ago. At that time, everything was in-spec. There has been only two inspections and one adjustment.

    Valve Adjustment

Thanks Doc, but she's back on the road now. All of the valves are in-spec. at this time. I won't take another look until I have at least 100k miles.

    RT Oil in Air Box?

Ordered 2011 RT so now must begin planning mods. Does the RT vent the crankcase breather to the air box like the old GS models? Are RT owners using some sort of catch can to avoid having oil flying everywhere? I am assuming it will be necessary to divert the breather. Tell me what you did. Has...

    Valve Adjustment

Did the valve adjustment on my 2009 GS at 84,000 miles. Only needed one shim on the rear cylinder (exhaust). All of the rest are in spec., but not by much. They are all getting tighter (less clearance). Probably should have changed them all (shims are cheap - labor is not), but dealer did not...

I am BAck , How about a Toy Run???

What was wrong with the bike that it took 22 days to repair? The last I heard, you could only go 5 mph.

    New DPS gets A+

I don't think of the "old DPS" as having a problem. Aside from the possible safety issue, the old DPS probably did what it was designed to do. The new DPS has different design parameters which go beyond fixing the safety issue. The new DPS seem to provide a little more power assist even at...

    New DPS gets A+

I never had any trouble with the DPS units on either of my Spyders, but I can tell you “I love my new DPS”. There is a very noticeable improvement in drive-ability. Quick lane changes are easier. On long sweeping curves, it is easier to hold the line. The comfortable speed on a given exit ramp...

    AARP-HARLEY-WHY I RIDE A SPYDER!

I belong to the Harley tribe and the Spyder tribe. I don't see any significant difference between them other than the name on the motorcycle. It is only important that you ride. It is not important what you ride. Don't waste your time worrying about what the other guy is riding. Enjoy life while...

Dan: Before you spend too much on mods, you may want to start putting some aside for that new Spyder Leah will want for her sixteenth birthday.:2thumbs:

    Motorcycle Study Survey Card

I participated in the $500 survey mailed from Niagara Falls. I feel this survey most certainly came from BRP. It had the terminology which is BRP's corporate signature. There is no doubt in my mind. The survey was way too long. I stayed with it to the end, only because I wanted to help BRP. I...

Walmart doesn't seem to have them online. Google search didn't produce any results either. It may not be so easy to get one.

    SpyderLovers Party

Sorry I missed the event. I regret not making it to the BarBQ. I was all set to go but wasn't able to get enough sleep on Friday night. Insomnia often ruins my plans. On Friday, I got the bike ready - checked the oil - checked the tire pressure - gave it a thorough inspection. I got everything...
