• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

I'll add my random thoughts... If air flow is a factor then this would indicate the plastic (and parking brake line?) is melting due to the air temp being high enough to melt it. This seems really unlikely. Air temps that high under the plastic would cause 3rd degree burns almost instantly if...

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

Flash temp is the temp that an open flame or spark needs to be to ignite it. Auto-ignition temp is the temp that no open flame or spark is needed. The auto-ignition temp of brake fluid is around 419F. Lower than paper. Put a piece of paper on a hot exhaust pipe and see if it catches fire. As...

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

Are you sure that 2013s have the same master cylinder? 2013s have a new brake system.

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

Ah thanks, that'd explain how another members parking brake cable melted... Anyone lasered this section of pipe when it's good and hot? It seems that it's hotter than previous generations for some reason... On our GS's there's all kinds of plastic bits near the exhaust pipes and they don't...

    Engine compartment fluid flashpoints

Hm. My brake fluid completely coated the exhaust elbow heading towards the muffler... When I lasered that pipe it came up at ~450F, just above the auto-ignition point of brake fluid. Got lucky? Scary stuff.

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

That's a negative. ...and I won't ride it until BRP figures out what's causing it and fixes it right. They sent out the same exact replacement part which will just melt again in 2000 miles like the last one. See this? BRP already has this photo. Dany took the same shot of mine at the Owners...

    Melted Master Cylinder Reservoir

Probably not, but it sure makes a mess. That stuff's corrosive.

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

I would really hope that even if they can't fix it quickly, BRP should let everyone with 2013's know that they should inspect their master brake cylinder before every ride or risk losing their brakes suddenly. An official word would be real nice right about now.

    Cramps while riding ???

I'll throw in my 2 cents on hydration. Leg cramps are an early sign of dehydration. Get yourself a cup holder and drink a 20oz bottle of water or G2 every hour of riding no matter what the temperature or conditions. There's tons of advice from long time riders that speak to the wonders of...

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

Remember this is happening everywhere. The difference between 70F ambient and 130F ambient isn't really that much in the grand scheme of things. We're talking about temps that are hundreds of degrees too high. Mine melted on a nice 72F day in the mountains.

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

that's odd. no spring on the parts diagram, but you can see the wire loops where it goes.

All jokes aside, is this viable?

Why not order an ST radiator fan and see where you can squeeze that in? It's powerful and made to survive on a bike... I'd be surprised if most fans would survive on the road for long. But I'm not really sure how much it'll change things either. If 85mph of wind against the front doesn't...

Missing exhaust spring and melted cylinder

I'm pretty sure we're going to start seeing a lot of these. As for the spring, the heat sent that one for a trip down the road. All BRP is doing at this point is sending replacement parts for the melted and missing ones. Which just melt and go missing again. Not sure how long it'll take...

    High Pitched sound when off

I would be careful of doing that... it's running for a reason :)

    Proper Engine Break-in Procedure

I thought Nakasil lined cylinders was a bad thing... sulfur in the fuel causes the lining to break down and once that happens cylinder wear occurs quickly, often spectacularly. High quality fuels don't have much sulfur in them, but the US hardly has high quality fuels available everywhere...

RAM X GRIP for STS instructions?

I really like the kewl metal mount on the handlebars. Nice and solid. Unfortunately $50 is a cheap farkle and only the beginning!

    New STS owner

You had to do what? Man, they only made me sign stuff... that was scary enough! :congrats: I know you'll enjoy it! edit: I mean the Spyder...

RAM X GRIP for STS instructions?

I put a ram ball into the sun shade area with an xgrip. It's usable but not as stable as I'd hoped.

    DO YOU BELIEVE IN KARMA????

mine is unmodified. no tape, no wrap. 2600 miles and it melted. just got word that the replacement part arrived, but it looks like it was not revised, so it'll just melt again.

Do you think this will work?

So what did they suggest? I don't know an engineering mind that wouldn't at least take a stab at it.
