• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to be a pessimist but I think BRP is grasping at straws here. They don't know what to do so they replace everything. In my mind, the ignition switch just holds the key. The communication is between the key and the DESS module. The switch has nothing to do with it. I sincerely hope there...

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prior to the 2014's, the setup was different. The DESS module on the older models received the information from the key AND did the authentication. If it liked what it saw, it told the ECM to start the bike. That's why on older models if you swapped the DESS module, you had to reprogram the...

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just trying to directly address pitzerwms' comment that all they changed for '15 were the colors.

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the parts manuals, the 2015's have a different ECM and a different DESS Module. Since the DESS must communicate with the ECM to start the bike, my guess is that the 2015 DESS will communicate only with a 2015 ECM. The 2015 DESS number (710004241) is different than both the...

    Curse you DESS

For the 2014's, there are two codes for "Communication Problem with the Key" -- U0167 and U0426. The suggested "action" in both cases is a careful checking of voltage or resistance at various places in the DESS wiring. I agree with BlueKnight that it seems highly unlikely that the system...

    Oil Analysis Report

If you go with Amsoil, you want their 10/40 MOTORCYCLE Oil. It used to be called just 10-40 Motorcycle Oil. I see they are playing marketing games and the new stock is labeled 10-40 Metric Motorcycle Oil. I never try to understand the logic of marketing but if you see either one of these...

Trans Labrador There's a good article in the latest issue of Road Runner Motorcycle Touring and Travel on riding the Trans Labrador Highway. October 2015 issue; Trans Labrador is mentioned on the cover. I just got my copy in the mail today. If you don't subscribe to it, hopefully you can get...

    Curse you DESS

According to the 2014 Shop Manual, the DESS Module can be replaced without requiring any programming of the keys. In 2014, the DESS Module simply reads the info in the key and transmits that info to the ECU which does the authentication. Unlike previous years where the DESS Module did the...

    Curse you DESS

Once BRP and Steve start talking with your dealer, things will happen quickly. That's been my experience in the past. Keep us informed.

    Went to Mobile 1

Yes. BRP owns Rotax. Highly-regarded engine manufacturer; makes aircraft engines, also. BRP bought them several years ago.

Is this the BRP full-syn or the blend? 9.2 puts you at the very high end of the 20 range for viscosity -- 5.6 - 9.3.

    Curse you DESS

:agree: And somewhere in the many prior posts someone referred to it as an "ignition module". That would just lead to further arguments with the dealer. It is not an ignition module; it is a security-system DESS module. :agree: Great undertaking. That is what is needed. The parts info...

    Possible Eastern Canada 2017

The good thing is you've got lots of time to do lots of research and homework. Just for info, I'll summarize what we did on our two motorcycle trips to Newfoundland. First time, we took the 14-hour ferry from North Sydney, NS to Argentia. Going that direction, you can take the ferry overnight...

    Possible Eastern Canada 2017

Been to Newfoundland and it's great. Green, scenic, great little villages on the seashore. Went across to Labrador on the ferry and rode the 55 miles of paved road that exist there. Not green but barren instead. Stayed in Blanc Sablon and rode to Red Bay where the pavement ends. Look at the...

I guess being labeled a wanker and being told I engage in BS misinterpretations does not qualify as name calling. Obviously I am misinterpreting. You are now blocked. Have a nice life!

Chill out, please. I made my comment for a little relaxed tongue-in-cheek humor. If the only way you can make your point is to call me obnoxious names and claim I don't deal in facts, then you are the one misinterpreting. Check my posts. Facts. When an opinion, it's clearly labeled as such...

    Went to Mobile 1

Glad to hear the Mobil 1 4T is doing well. As I said, I always liked it in the 'Wing. I know there were many cases of automotive oil being the culprit in clutch slippage, including automotive Mobil 1. I recall there were a few instances of motorcycle oil 4T resulting in slippage but I'd be...

    Brake systems with mineral oils...?

You do not have mineral oil fluid in your Spyder so there is no concern there. You have fluid which is glycol-based (DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 are glycol based. DOT 5 is silicone -- NOT compatible). Castrol GT LMA and RBF 600 are both fully compatible with what you have in there now. No need to...

    Went to Mobile 1

The Mobil 1 in question was the 4T 10/40 (the V Twin is 20/50 for air-cooled V Twins that specify the higher viscosity). 4T is rated JASO MA-1 and is indeed a very good oil. I put over 100K on my GL1800 with mostly 4T in it. At 100K it consumed very little oil, hardly any more than when it...

Newfoundland As promised, here's my reminder about Newfoundland. Anyone who has the time should add Newfoundland to their itinerary. It is fantastic and well worth the extra time and effort to get there. Take a 5-hour ferry from the eastern end of Nova Scotia out of North Sydney to Port Aux...
