• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Oil Analysis Report

Never heard of initial shear reduction being expected and normal. When I tested my Amsoil 10/40 after an 8,000 mile run to Alaska and back in my 2011 RT, it showed at the very high end of the 30 spec -- 12.06. I thought that was pretty darn good for the miles. And the V-twin is turning about...

    2014 SM-6 Clutch Issue

Thanks. I'll take a hard look at that when the time comes.

    2014 SM-6 Clutch Issue

It was stamped on it somewhere. I think the inside of the cap if you pull the rubber diaphragm out. There's nothing on the outside and I know I was really surprised when I saw it. Guess I should have recorded it for posterity. Next time I check the fluid, which will be a while, I'll look...

    2014 SM-6 Clutch Issue

I'm all too familiar with your analogy. My 2011 RT had the W/S arm fail twice, once after only 8,000 miles. Once leaving us stranded on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi. Found a really helpful dealer in Nashville and rode 200 miles with the broken strut, fortunately almost all on the...

    2014 SM-6 Clutch Issue

As we were completing our "break-in" run from PA through Ontario over to Lake Superior and back, I noticed the clutch lever didn't "feel right". At first I thought is was my imagination but then as it worsened, I realized it was not my imagination. It's not returning to it's fully disengaged...

    Very noisy fuel pump!

Add me to the list of replaced fuel pumps -- now enjoying the sound of silence. When the bike is "booting up" and the gauges are doing their sweep, I can barely hear anything. Before it was very loud and obnoxious. Embarrassing as well as discomforting. I had brought it to the dealer's...

Hard knock when placed in Reverse

Agree with everybody's comments. Motorcycle clutches like these are multi-plate clutches with very tight clearances in between the plates when the clutch is disengaged. They are wet clutches which means the entire assembly is bathed in engine oil. The viscous drag of the oil between the...

    American Motorist Association Y/N?

American Motorcyclist Association Absolutely. Since I first started riding many years ago. No one else out there is fighting for your rights like they are. Fighting battles to prevent health insurance discrimination, to keep municipalities from banning motorcycles on select streets...

USING THE ECO MODE 1330 Engine

Technically it doesn't cut the power per se but cuts the throttle response to your handgrip as shown in the earlier graphs. Let's say you were in ECO mode and had the hand grip at 90% of it's possible rotation. That would have resulted in the throttle being open about 50%. When you turned off...

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

Are we getting the ignition switch problem confused with the DESS problem? There was a list of key codes and VIN's for the ignition switch problem but this is the first I've read of a list of known VIN's for the DESS problem. I don't recall reading of anyone having their DESS replaced...

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

Yep. Your comment made me go back and look at my 2011 manual. The DESS module stores the codes and does the code recognition on the earlier models, not the ECM. Big change for 2014's and later.

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

The key codes are stored in the ECM. The DESS is just sort of a pass through. I'll quote from the shop manual (it won't let me copy and paste it) in the general system description section of DESS: "When the DESS system is powered up at key ON, the antenna energizes the microcircuit in the key...

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

I had the opposite experience with BRP. When my clutch slave cylinder failed in Presque Isle, Maine on a Saturday morning, I called BRP. They told me the nearest dealer was in Fort Kent, Maine which happens to be about 60 miles away. I asked BRP to let me call the dealer first to see what...

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

Thanks for the info. According to the BRP website and checking on the ProCaliber website, the DESS part number for the 2014 models (RT and RS) is 710004190. For 2015 it's 710004241. However, my original 2014 shop manual lists the DESS as 710003595. So perhaps the 4190 is the updated part...

USING THE ECO MODE 1330 Engine

Thanks for posting this. It shows the normal variability to be expected from fill-up to fill-up. You cannot make any comparisons based on one or two tanks of gas. I would never make any comparisons on less than 1,000 miles of riding. Even then the results (change or no change in mpg) are...

General Observation - DESS error reports seem to be growing recently!

Unfortunate. The 2015 DESS has a different part number as does the ECM. I was hoping that they solved the issue with the 2015's but it doesn't sound like it. And even if they had solved it, the 2015 ECM changed in some way so the 2015 DESS may not work with the 2014 ECM. Does anyone have a...

RT - S Fog Light Question

I think we're getting confused here. The OP's query was whether the small "blue" lights in our North American headlight area (on the RT-S and LTD) could be fit into the small round area in the front of the fog light housing that appears to be for some kind of light bulb but nothing is there. I...

RT - S Fog Light Question

In the North American Operator's Guide, our headlights are shown as "#1 - Headlight"; our fog lights are shown as "#2 - Fog Light (option package)". The European Guide shows #1 as "Headlight - High Beam"; #2 is "Headlight - Low Beam". The European versions do not get a fog light option. The...
