• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Was Can Am thinking this? While working on this project I started wondering if Can Am had something like this in mind when they were designing their first prototype? It is interesting to note that the casting behind the foot rest appears to be a lot stronger than necessary for something that...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Yes I did. I am using a tube that goes to the bottom of a bottle of fluid, so that I don't suck any air back up the tube and into the bleed valve. Most of the fluid came from the master cylinder up on the handlebar. I didn't notice that every time I squeezed it, a little "old faithful" geyser...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Thanks Lamont! Are you still thinking of changing to a hydraulic system or have you decided to stay with your cable system? BTW - Thanks for getting me squared away on uploading photos.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

One thing I forgot to mention in my running description of the project. Since I made my own clevis I elected to have the end of the slave cylinder shaft push against the bottom of the 5/16" diameter x 5/8" deep hole, instead of the nut pushing against the end as NEXUS did. I still put the nut on...

Photos I'll attempt to upload some photos of the hand brake project.

    No Power Stearing

Darn! Another thing I should have done when Lamonster and I rode Palomar Mountain last August. :(

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Success! I now have a working hand brake on my Spyder. I'll attempt the photo uploading process in another posting as soon as I go through my photos and pick the most representative of the project and reduce their sizes. I had missed Lamontster's instructions on how to do the uploading. I...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

I fabricated the mounting bracket and now the slave cylinder is mounted on the Spyder. For the bracket I had in my metal stock a length of aluminum angle. I cut off a piece four inches long to start with so I could trim it to length after the holes were drilled. The original size of the angle...

    Hoodlatch

Yeah, I also had re-adjusted the latch bolt and now I'm ready for the spring method, because it has taken a new set and won't pop up anymore. Aggravating, when my other hand is full - grrr!

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

The continuing saga: Yesterday I set out to find the clevis. Since I live on what people say is the largest pleasure boat harbor in the world and sail boats use many clevises, I headed out to our local West Marine store to look at their selection of same. Not so! They had a good selection of...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Unfortunately, Lamonster changed this forum so that we have to use another photo sharing web site in order to post photos here. I used to post photos on this forum but I'm not inclined to use a photo sharing web site, so I can no longer post photos here. However, I have been taking photos at...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Great, thanks for the tip and repairing the text Lamont. Continuing the hand brake saga. Removing the RH Driver Foot Rest, as Can Am identifies it, has proved the most difficult and frustrating part of the project, so far. After removing the four 8mm flange bolts, one of which need a U-joint...

    Off-road spyder "Adventure"?

If you look at my profile photo you will see my answer for an off-road trike configured like the Spyder. By doing this Yamaha TW200 conversion I got a street legal ATC in California (& National Parks) where ATV's cannot be made street legal. It is a lot of fun in the dirt but can only do about...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Yeah, the mistake I made was not closing the spell check before hitting the submit tab. I was able to use the edit function to re-align some of the text (it was actually worse than what you see, before I did that) but edit would not let me close what the spell check had highlighted and...

Sorry, the spell check function really messed up my post's appearance.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Well, I solved the problems with mounting the master cylinder yesterday. Because I still have the stock handlebars and the stock cover my situation was a little different than Nexus'. I removed the little black cylindrical cover between the handlebar cover and the start/stop switch console. Then...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

I have now received both the master cylinder and the push slave cylinder so I'm ready to proceed. One thing different, that I'm going to have to work out, is the mounting of the master on the handlebar. It looks like, in his photos, Nexus has gone to riser bars which I haven't done except for...

    SOCAL SPRING AGAIN RIDE

I'm in Newport Beach. I could join the ride there and then leave the ride there again, on the way back. It all depends on when the ride takes place.

    BRP Hand Brake?

Lamont, When we rode Palomar Mountain together I had intended to try out your cable actuated hand brake. I already knew, at the time we did that ride, that I would add a hand brake to mine. I just wanted to wait until several different methods were tried by others. I regretted, later that day...
