• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Hello

In California the Spyder is definitely a motorcycle. The DMV vehicle code says any motor vehicle with less than four wheels is a motorcycle. Period! No if's and's or but's. If it has three wheels then you don't need the motorcycle endorsement on your license but you still have to wear a helmet...

    First Service!

Just had my first service at 770 miles. With the sales tax it came to $260. What have others paid? Seems high to me but then my Spyder dealer is in a "high rent district".

What Product do you want to see in the aftermarket for Spyder

I'm going to adapt ATV pegs to my Spyder just as I did on the two trikes I built (see avatar photo). I really miss those pegs when I'm riding my Spyder, I've gotten very accustomed to riding all kinds of terrain with them, on my trikes. The pegs I adapted were from the Yamaha YFZ450 ATV. I had...

    Hood latch spring

I did the latch adjust to further compress the weather seal, a month or so ago and it is working good. However, at the time I was thinking that the seal might take a "set" in the new position, after some time passes. Your posting says that it will do that, so now I have a simple solution when it...

Stay away from those big trucks if you can

The Myth Busters TV show did some tests on this subject and it was scary what those pieces of tire can do! :yikes: Lamonster, that must have been like one of those WW2 bombers going through a cloud of anti-aircraft cannon flack without getting hit. :2thumbs:

    SMOKSTER - Was that you?

SMOKSTER - Was that you? This afternoon (8/20) I was getting gas at the 76 station on the corner of Tustin and 17th in Costa Mesa when two up on a silver Spyder came up Tustin and turned right on 17th. It looked like your bike but I couldn't tell if it was you or not. :dontknow:

    The Funniest SH-t Ever

Lamonster, that day we were riding to the Hideout, Mt. Palomar, etc., there were a lot of bikes on the road (result of great weather). I noticed that almost all of them waved as we passed. My experience, since I started riding the Spyder, has been that most bikers will wave. Except in town, the...

    20K

I'm glad you had a good, safe trip back, Lamont. 20K - Wow :2thumbs: I sure enjoyed the time we spent, that day, riding in the Mt. Palomar/Julian area. Too bad I couldn't send that beautiful weather, to go along with you, on your trip back to home. Frank

    New Sliding Winshield !

I have one of their adjustable windshields on order. When I placed the order on July 24, I was told I would be #23 on the waiting list and that production wouldn't start for about 3 weeks. So I don't expect to see my new windshield for a while yet. :dontknow:

    trailer suggestions to move spyder

I use the biggest Kendon folding trailer that is six feet x eight feet when unfolded. If I'm remembering correctly it is rated for 4000 lbs. Kendon is in Anaheim CA and a number of motorcycle dealers sell their trailers. I had a smaller one but I bought this one at the same time and place where...

    Big increase in MPG

On my return from Julian to my desert cabin I had to be sure I made it on the gas I had, because in that 44 miles there are no stations. The gas station that used to be in Julian had gone out of business, so I couldn't top off there. lamonster looked at my gauge and said I'd make it easily - he...

    Big increase in MPG

Yes, Both times I filled it until it was up to the fill tube, about 1" below the top.

    Big increase in MPG

I finally got around to measuring the mileage I got on my ride with Lamonster in the Julian CA area. 39 MPG! A lot of the riding that day was twisty mountain roads, not exactly conducive to good mileage. What makes this so amazing is that I only have about 700 miles on the Spyder. On my...

Possible alternative to BRP knee pads

I haven't used it but I sure want to consider it. I have always liked knee pads on my bikes, maybe it's because of the antique British bikes I also ride - they all come with knee pads, so I got accustomed to them. I put replica antique British knee pads on my Yamaha TW200's, I didn't know there...

    Meet my little pumpkin ....

Wow! I just noticed where your bell is. I searched for a place to put mine when I got my Spyder and the only place I could think of was to hang it on my reverse lever. However, sometimes it gets caught up in the slot. I'm going to look at moving it to where yours is located. On nice thing about...

    Key Mod

I also got tired of holding the key down while opening the trunk so I just screwed in the latching bolt on the trunk a few turns to compress the trunk's gasket a little more. Loosen the lock nut, turn the latching bolt and re-tighten the lock nut - simple. Now the lid springs up just enough to...

    Hand Brakes

Lamonster mentioned to me, on our ride last Saturday, that he is going to change his from a cable actuated system to a hydraulic system. I've used both cable and hydraulic systems on several machines (not Spyders) and my first choice would always be hydraulic, for a much more positive action and...

    Gas mileage

I think my mileage is improving as the riding mileage goes up. I haven't refilled yet, after the Julian ride, but having three bars on the gauge after 172 miles of twisty mountain riding, I know that is better than when I first got the Spyder. The only time I've measured the mileage was my...

    Julian ride

I was telling Lamonster when we were standing in the shade on Palomar, that the only other times I had been up there was to do the dirt downhill, Nate Harrison Grade, on a Greenspeed. The Greenspeed is an Auslralian recumbent (yes, human powered) trike with the two wheels in front. In the seat...

    Tighten Them Front Springs!

Because of my experience with the two Yamaha trikes I built (see avatar) the first ride I did when I got my Spyder was to my shop (3 miles) for the purpose of tightening my front shock springs to maximum stiffness. I had no interest in anything less. BTW - I also have an anti-sway bar on the...
