• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Poll on navigation preferences

Gps all the time while riding. But, we decide where we want to be next day and book the accommodation on the phone. Normally the booking program will give the destination on a map down to street level. I zoom in on that area on the GPS and, often the accommodation is actually known to the map...

    replace drive belt or not??

Hmm... The tensile strength of the belt is in the outside chords, they're slightly compromised but not terribly so. The missing tooth piece is not so worrisome since there's always many teeth engaged at any time. I guess it depends on how you drive, conservative touring or speed merchant. I'd...

I just wanna buy ONE oil

Aha, well a wee apology from me because I felt I was being a bit harsh and went away to edit my post but you got in before I'd finished proof reading it so sorry about that. You could go back and read my finalised post though.

I just wanna buy ONE oil

As an addition to what Spyderlass said and in answer to the OP, most of the big players in the oil industry produce multi application oils specifically to satisfy the need to rationalise personal oil stocks. Some of these lubricants can deal with engines from large earth moving plant down to...

I just wanna buy ONE oil

More specifically, Mike. The BRP manual does not state not to use motor oil because it causes damage, it states not to use a specific classification of motor oil because it may damage the clutch and the clutch will slip. Here is a snap from the lubrication section of the workshop manual... The...

    Front Fenders have movement

A good outcome.... For those who say their fenders are rock solid, well, I don't know what to say other than they're not, they're just like yours. Rubber mounted suspension, it's gonna move cos that's what rubber does. Anyway, I'm pleased your mind is at rest about it, and as you say...

    2015 rt upper cowl shake

Mike, in what way does the nanny detect G-force? Not winding you up, a serious question.

    Front Fenders have movement

If your Spyder is a 1330, the front suspension is rubber mounted and has considerable flex. It doesn't take much load to move the top suspension wishbone relative to the lower one. If you doubt what I say, try this: stand at the side of your front wheel looking down at the top wishbone...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

Your tyre is on the wear bars and pretty well done, in summer you could squeeze a div more life out of it if you had a mind but if you winter ride fit the new one. You caliper needs a service, it's not sliding freely. Don't put a groove in the pad. Different makes use different bonding...

LED Rear Lights- Brake and Turn

Mr.h0gr1der, How important to you are the reversing lights? Are you spotting where this is going! :)

Ignorant questions about jacking up the RT

I think you'll find the whole rear end weight and more is on that shock bolt when the bike is in use. However, I use car ramps under the front and leave the rear wheel on the ground and the oil appears to drain OK. My ramps tend to slide too but resettling them on the floor usually does the...

    2015 rt upper cowl shake

As I said early on in your thread, the RT does flex a lot when travelling over bumps or rough road. The whole cluster/dash assembly moves side to side. Especially if the bumps are quickly on opposite sides. Personally I think you're being given a whole lot of worry beads. I reckon there's a...

LED Rear Lights- Brake and Turn

I'm not sure I can help because I'm not familiar with the 2018 model but I've played with the rear lights on the 2017RTL. I've also ridden behind them. The rear LED stop lamps are very bright, behind them at night they are too bright and interfere with the night vision of the driver behind. As...

    Laser Alignment

I'll mostly go along with that but add that some folks have limitations! ;) However, a DIYer can definitely do a laser alignment if they have a properly working brain and a wish to do it. I use two laser levels, (kinda like a short spirit level) cheaply purchased. One for each wheel. The BRP...

    First Service at 600 miles?

I'm with you on that centiment. I guess too often could be considered wasteful but as soon as oil is used it begins to degrade so it's really up to the user how much degradation they're willing to allow between changes. For me for a new engine, any engine, it's before 300 miles for first...

    First Service at 600 miles?

I do a lot of engine work so I buy my lubricants in 20lt containers. But so can you! For the Spyders I buy Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40 20 Liter. Nowadays I shop around for it, the last I bought was 40Lts at £74 per 20lt tub on ebay. Given the pound to dollar exchange rate and just short of 4 oil...

    2015 rt upper cowl shake

Mmm... I'd be very wary of that, you'll concentrate the sideways load onto your fastening points and more than likely crack the tupperwear at your bracketing points. Live with the shake, it's normal and although it appears slightly alarming, each panel and each fastening is actually only...

    2015 rt upper cowl shake

RT's do shake. Over here we call it scuttle shake, it is normal though a little alarming at first. Just ride, it'll be fine.

    First Service at 600 miles?

I guess some of the decision will be made on financial grounds. If one is paying $300 for an oil/filter change at a dealer then that's a substantial outlay in the long run. Those of us who do it ourselves can do about 10 oil changes for that 300 dollars so we can afford to be generous to our...
