• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    First Service at 600 miles?

I'd get it done, in fact I'd have the initial oil out at before 300 miles. If you drain the oil and shine a bright light on it and stir it, you'll be amazed at the amount of very fine metal suspended in it, filtered or not! Nice grinding paste for the early miles of brake-in. The manufacturer...

Port on driver's side saddle bag?

The one on the left side is for the passenger seat heat control. The one on the right side is for the passenger radio control.

Can you increase the fuse amperage for the trunk power adapter? Or other solution?

OK, you've clarified well now. It would be poor practise to run your unit from the trunk accessory socket. When an electrical device contains a motor, just as you switch on the device there is a large current flow much larger than the rated continuous current flow. This is because the motor...

Need advice/info on Installing battery tender harness?

I just mentioned this in another post for a different question but I'll post here in case you miss it. You can pick up battery power at the main alternator post because it is directly connected to the battery. The alternator is just behind the left front side panel so easily accessible, negative...

Need advice/info on Installing battery tender harness?

You just need a couple of tails from the battery posts to a connector of your choice. Keep them shortish and let the connector(s) lie under the seat. I used 4mm banana connectors because it's easy to connect whatever I want to them. Use decent size cable and put a fuse in the positive lead. You...

Add power outlet to 2016 RT Limited

Yes, you can tap into that circuit without a problem provided you stay withing the max current draw. You can fit a replacement higher rated fuse into the fuse box if need be. Take care how big you go though. To add to stevencovert's post. If you need battery power up front there is no need to...

Oil Change 1330 SE6 - drain engine or trans first?

I do the engine side first, while its draining I remove the mirror and side panel. Unscrew the oil filter to let air in so it drains too then drain the transmission side. Go get a coffee while it all drains down completely. Replace everything and it's job done. Don't forget the oil! :yikes:

    Moving on..... Next Phase

Mr. h0gr1der, it's a pity you've had hassle with your Spyder. Between me and my partner we've had 4 RT's. There has been a few issues but only one which stopped us, a dess failure on a 2014. But I've had 2 Goldwings and still ride one of them but they too have had a few wee problems so I'd put...

Question for former or current Goldwing owners who have a Spyder

The GW has good protection but terrible buffeting in the turbulence behind the barn door sized screen. I can only speak of the RT and it is better because it lets air into the low pressure area behind the screen. An RT with a vent in the screen is better still. Rain doesn't pose a problem...

    Continuing DESS Issue?

Well writing it down will take longer than actually doing it! But firstly this was a 2014RT and this is how it was but I guess could be different on other years. I did mine by removing the battery clamp and battery. Took a small mirror to peek up above the battery. I reached in and removed the...

    (another) Tire question

Just to finish off, you don't need a laser alignment after removal and refitting any of the wheels and/or tyres. If the rear belt adjusters are not moved (there is no requirement for them to be moved) it's very probable you won't even need to adjust the belt for alignment either.

Did dealer give me the wrong GPS?

I agree with the others, the mount is to suit a 590LM or 595LM gps . Same mount for both. The GPS you show was fitted as an accessory to some of the earlier Spyders.

    Continuing DESS Issue?

I've said this before but when something is so simple folks don't believe it. You don't need to remove the frunk to replace the DESS unit, the cable connectors are accessible just above the battery. Simply disconnect the faulty unit but leave it in place. Reconnect your new unit and mount it on...

Oh, thank you, nice comment. You must be confusing me with someone else, I didn't say that. I'm not going to argue with you, for obvious reasons.

    Continuing DESS Issue?

In the UK we can't get insurance cover if the dess is disabled. Even if the dess is functioning but the bike is left without the keylock turned to lock the bars theft cover is invalid. It may be different for you folks but I'd be checking it out to be sure

    tires on front

My partner is riding with car tyres on the front and a Kenda on the rear, simply because we had one on the shelf which needed using. The Spyder handles fine with that set up, very slightly less directionally stable than fully car tyre but much, much better than with Kenda original fronts. I...

And so can the nearest thief! Are you going to use other security?

    Rear tire. yes another thread

I'm gonna be contentious because I don't believe this low pressure for the rear tyre thing. The run them soft to heat them up because they're age hardening is daft...why? Because tyre rubbers harden every time they go through a heat cycle, that's a heat up cool down cycle. The more frequent...

Anyone tried this headlight switch mod?

You can solder a wire to the headlamp relay to bypass the low beam relay contact. When the low beam contact opens the bypass wire keeps the low beams on. I believe the USA folks don't use the same front lighting as us European folks though.
