• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Gas Octane

We're talking around each other here. I'm not saying the system would advance the ignition timing beyond the optimized setting. But if the system retarded the timing on account of 87 octane fuel, and the rider subsequently introduces a higher octane fuel, the system would then "advance" the...

    Gas Octane

I would argue this to be true for an engine without a knock sensor -- an engine incapable of modifying ignition timing to compensate for octane. *IF* the Spyder's engine control system does not use a knock sensor, and its ignition timing is optimized for 87 octane, using a higher octane would...

    Gas Octane

I think you're missing the point... A knock-control system retards ignition timing to mitigate or eliminate knock. Retarding ignition timing (without changing other engine parameters) has the side-effect of reducing engine power output. *If* the Spyder's engine control system incorporates a...

My Spyder delivery date is now Oct. I can, however, buy the dealer demo SM5 for...

I wouldn't give even a second thought to how "hard" it had been ridden during the break in -- especially if the dealer intends to honor the factory warranty. Anything someone can do to break the machine in the first 625 miles is gonna show up LONG before the warranty runs out. Besides, in my...

    Oil for spyder

Right, assuming the engine failure is thought to be oil related -- which seems extremely unlikely given just about ANY oil you use (short of one that causes clutch slippage) is gonna work just fine for the length of the warranty assuming one follows the (really short) 3,000 mile change schedule...

    Oil for spyder

Actually, this point has already been discussed at length; neither version of this oil contains friction modifiers. The latest iteration of Shell Rotella T Syn 5W40 comes in a white jug and meets API's SM service standard. BRP specifically recommends oil meeting the earlier API SL standard...

    Oil for spyder

Sigh....... Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 meets or exceeds all BRP specs, contains no friction modifiers to interfere with wet clutch operation and is available for approx $17 per gallon. Is that because the oil Wal-Mart sells is not as good as oils sold elsewhere? If you believe this to be...

    Oil for spyder

BRP doesn't recommend BRANDS (other than its own), only specifications. My suggestion; put the least expensive 5W40 Synthetic that meets the BRP specs in your Spyder, and enjoy the ride. The recommended change interval virtually guarantees ANY MANUFACTURER'S OIL will meet your engine's needs --...

    Motorcycle Etiquette....

:agree: Luckily, the one and only time this happened my wife was with me; she tends to mellow me out when I get, um, stressed. She suggested instead of finding myself in the local jail facing battery charges (I told her I was gonna put on my helmet and headbutt the dumb$4!t sitting on her...

Think I'm about done with Deals Gap

Don't look now, but you're making the same argument as those who wrote the speed limit laws in the first place. What do I mean? Question: What's the difference between 45 mph and 65 mph? Answer: It's a matter of degree. Question: What's the difference between 65 mph and 100 mph? Answer: It's...

Think I'm about done with Deals Gap

A nation of criminals... "The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." -- Ayn Rand

    Oil Change Frequency

Actually, there are many facts available -- all one must do is take the time to do the research. Lamont's experience is certainly a data point, but certainly not the ONLY data point. I can think of a few reasons besides changing the oil that might have caused this result, but like you I would...

    Oil Change Frequency

AFAIK, there are no additive packages included in motorcycle oils intended to specifically aid wet-clutch operation. I've never seen any claims by a motorcycle oil manufacturer that their oil works better with a wet clutch than other oils. As mentioned, certain gasoline engine oils contain...

    Oil Change Frequency

I don't see a problem with the different viscosity requirements between these machines -- lower temps require lower viscosity base oil. While I could foresee some crazy Spyder Ryder climbing on his or her machine in sub-zero weather, I think the ice might interfere with such an endeavor for the...

    Oil Change Frequency

Oh goodie... more oil wars! Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 is manufactured specifically for the diesel engine market, but the container label states it is "suitable" for use in gasoline engines. Although it may be suitable for use in gasoline engines, this is a diesel engine oil specifically...

    rubbing whining noise

I think you're fine. I'm not sure why BRP is so specific about the 1/16" gap. I seems to me as long as it's not touching the sprocket flange, ANY gap, no matter how microscopic, should be sufficient. Regards, Mark

    rubbing whining noise

Many have reported noises such as you describe -- a sort of groaning or howling at certain speeds. Some have attributed the noise to the Spyder's unique tire tread pattern. Others have suggested the drive belt tension may be the culprit. Our Spyder DID exihibit a noise that could be the same...

First, welcome! You're gonna love your Spyder even more after you get proficient at riding it. Did you get a video with your Spyder? If you you did, there is a section on it that gives you some riding pointers and suggestions on skills you can practice to get comfortable. If you didn't get a...
