• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    initial oil consumption

That's a good question -- I've never checked! My assumption, based on all the hoopla in the manual and on the label, is BRP determined the difference to be significant. I've been wondering if this might have anything to do with the problems some have seen with oil in the crankcase breather...

No more heat to my right leg

Corrosion isn't the only issue with wrapping your pipes. The other question is deterioration from excessive heat. Unwrapped pipes are cooled by air flowing over them -- that's why you feel the heat. When you wrap them, you keep all that heat in the pipe. This isn't a problem if the pipe is...

    initial oil consumption

You didn't mention whether the engine was up to operating temp, or if you followed the FULL procedure for checking the oil. I know it may seem crazy, but there is a specific procedure for checking the oil that if not followed can result in inaccurate readings. From page 82 of the Spyder...

    Off Topic but relevant

Wow, I've always found Snopes to be fairly reliable. They're generally consistent with telling all sides of a disputed story, and they post links to their sources... Can you tell us why you believe Snopes is not credible? Regards, Mark

    belt question

Apparently the rubber engine mounts give a great deal during the first 600 miles of service. As the mounts compress, the engine will move to a new position. The drive belt is set tight to account for this engine movement. If your belt get too loose you could skip cogs during acceleration. That...

Tell me your best Spyder story for a free t-shirt

You asked four hours too soon... I posted both of these earlier today... http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=41046&postcount=4 http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=41090&postcount=15 Do they count? Regards, Mark

    Spyder Tire Preasures

Looking at the oil resevoir placard reproduced on page 58 of the Spyder Operator's Guide PDF, it reads: Make sure engine is at operating temperature Roadster must be on a level surface Let engine running(sp) at idle for at least 30 seconds Stop engine & wipe the dipstick Dipstick must be...

    We're gonna make a sign

Had some guy run into the middle of the road from his front yard with a rake in his hand to stop me this weekend. He asked a couple of questions (who makes it, what's it called, yadda, yadda, same stuff...) then commented he'd seen a "scooter" like it just the other day. My response? With an...

    Spyder Tire Preasures

I thought this was what you were saying, I just didn't get the "cold" thrown in there -- seemed out of place since tire pressure is always checked cold... Personally, I haven't experienced this problem with our Spyder. Pressure drops a couple of pounds over two to three weeks -- nothing...

    Spyder Tire Preasures

If I fill my tires to 15 pounds, then check them, why would I be somehow surprised at the result? I would expect if I fill them to 15 psi they would be at or near 15 psi when I check them. They always have been so far... You threw the word "cold" in there and it didn't seem to fit because I...

    Spyder sighting in IL...

Saw a yellow Spydie yesterday around 1:00pm eastbound on HWY 40 between Saint Jacob and Highland, IL -- kind of a rural area, but between (within 20 miles either way) two Spyder dealers. Was that anyone here on the forum? Regards, Mark

    Gas mileage with mods

I can hear BRP's momma when it was growing up. "Now BRP," she says, with her hands on her hips, "Just because Yamaha jumped off a cliff, does that mean you should?" Since this product seems to be squarely aimed at a market segment which values performance, it seems to me BRP would have...

    squeak from brakes

Beerman, The squeal you hear is a high-pitched vibration of the brake pads. It can occur for a number of reasons: Pads not properly insulated from the caliper Pads not properly secured to the caliper Improper composition of the brake pads Contamination on the surface of the rotor or brake...

    New style rear tire

I believe BRP has been aware of the hydroplaning issue with the Spyder since day one. From the Spyder Operator's guide Page 24: "Avoid puddles and running water. The vehicle hydroplanes more easily than a car. If you must go through water, slow down." And on Page 48: "There is normally...

    Bat to the face...splat

Check with your doctor -- he or she should have the best info available for you. The shots are nowhere near as bad as they used to be. My understanding is six, total shots; one shot near the possible infection site, the rest in the shoulder over a 30-day period. Given that, I wouldn't fool with...

    Spyder Tire Preasures

I actually went out and looked at the front tire sidewall on the wife's Spyder. Now that I've practiced what I preach, here's what I found out... On the tire's sidewall, Kenda says the max load for this tire is 386 lbs. The Spyder's max vehicle weight is 1240 (800 + 440 = 1240). Assuming 50 to...
