• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    fan operation/hot running

Has your Spyder's computer notified you of an overheat condition? Has your Spyder entered "limp home" mode? If your Spyder truly overheats without a notification from the computer I would expect the system to vent coolant; has this happened? I'm curious about your measured temp -- did you...

    Backfiring?

Re: What Type of Gas Finally, someone with a shop manual speaks up! This was my understanding as well. I was fairly certain the Spyder does NOT employ a knock sensor. If this IS the case, then higher octane fuel is a complete waste of money. However, as the old song says, if it makes you...

    What are you cleaning with?

Turtle Wax Express Shine -- available at your local Wally-world. http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,4,3 Although not specifically stated on the site, you don't need to wash first, you'll just use more of the product if your Spyder is really dirty. Works on bugs, grease, road grime, you...

    Backfiring?

As I already pointed out, there is more to engine octane requirements than compression ratio and timing. Did you know you are actually changing the timing of the ignition event you change a fuel's octane? There are many advantages and disadvantages to increasing an engine's compression ratio...

    Backfiring?

Unless you know for certain the Spyder's ignition system is capable of the timing changes necessary to take advantage of the additional octane you should stick with the recommended minimum. There is more to engine octane requirements than ignition timing. Read this...

Ohio Dealer Blowing Smoke To Make Sell

To date, I know of no shipping delays from BRP. There has been much SPECULATION on this forum about delays, but as far as I know, nothing official has come from BRP suggesting any delivery delays. Yep, I know it's hard for some folks to believe, but there are unscrupulous sales people working...

    Questions for Spyder Owners

:welcome: Wow Mike, you don't start with the easy ones! I think you're gonna find there as many answers to "why a Spyder" as there are members on this forum. For us, my wife wanted to get off the pillion and ride her own machine. For a novice rider, the Spyder seemed perfect -- for all the...

    Riding Gear?

There is "expensive," then there is "EXPENSIVE!" Yes, some of the riding gear you need may cost a bit, but that cost pales in comparison to that of skin grafts to repair road rash... A good mesh jacket is actually cooler to ride in than a single, cotton shirt. Why? With a thin shirt on, the...

    COLD FEET

Derwin, You sound old enough to know what it's like to live with a few regrets. If you decide to drop your place in line now, I can promise you the first time you see someone riding a Spyder round your neighborhood you'll be wondering if it shoulda, woulda, coulda been YOURS! Another poster...

    Oil consumption

The manual doesn't really outline a break-in procedure per se, rather it only lists restrictions: During the first 1 000 km (625mi): – Avoid full throttle acceleration. – Avoid prolonged riding. – If the cooling fan operates continuously during stop and go traffic, pull over and shut off the...

    final drive ratio

With the majority of the Spyder's weight behind the front wheels, the Spyder is inherently unstable under acceleration in a hard turn. If the rider applies too much throttle and breaks the rear wheel loose in a turn, the resulting loss of traction at that wheel will allow centripidal force to...

    first 125 miles.....do I have issues??

The coolant used in most modern internal combustion engines has a very distinctive smell. If you had coolant sprayed on your face you would know... Most folks are averaging around 30 - 35 US MPG. I've heard as low as 28 and as high as 45. The best way to get more mileage is to slow down on the...

Best Online Oil Filter place, what oil is everyone using?

My understanding is Shell's Rotella T Synthetic in the white jugs meets the newer SM service specification by reducing a special Zinc anti-wear additive. The EPA mandates smog equipment must function for 100k miles. One of the primary anti-wear additives, Zinc dialkyl dithio phosphate or ZDDP...

    Spyder seat!!

As remarkable as it seems, not all backsides are the same -- some like being next to the Spyder, some don't. I say if you don't find the seat comfortable you should ride a little faster. You'll get more air for circulation, and you'll have to slide around a bit more to keep upright! Seriously...

    SE5 Delivery

The only place I've seen delivery dates change is here on the forum -- as far as I know the OFFICIAL dates are posted on BRP's website. I wouldn't get your drive belt all wadded up until you hear something official from BRP. Regards, Mark

    final drive ratio

I would be careful about changing tire sizes. The Vehicle Stability System uses sensors to measure speed based, in part, on the number of tire revolutions. If you change the tire size significantly you might render your VSS inoperative -- or even force the computer into "limp" mode. Regards, Mark
