• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Question for do-it-yourself oil changers . . .

I used a relatively pristine hex wrench and then applied a cheater bar in order to get mine off ......it is on tight!

    New oil recommendation from BRP

The best article that I have ever read on oil is here http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html And all this change by BRP confirms to me is that my changing to Shell Rotella T was the right move. :doorag:

    Right At Home.....

I've heard all the sad stories of howling brakes and burn spots on the exhaust, but hey not on my Spyder :D Well, today at 610mi the brakes started squeeling with a new low moan from the rear brake when backing up :yikes: and while washing the machine today I noticed the burn spot on the...

    Nitrogen in Tires

Nitrogen is almost all hype. Yes, you'll lose less pressure, 2.5lbs in a year as opposed to air where you'll lose 3.5lbs in a year........whoop de do :sour: Hope you check your tire pressure more often than once a year  There is no difference in thermal expansion so you get the same...

    How to check oil level

I find lots of largish bubbles at the top of the tank but they go away if you just wait for 15 to 30 seconds and then check the oil. I don't define that as foaming but some people might ;)

Did the belt drive adjustment --

Yes, (180-330 if my conversion from N to Lbs is right) but the NAPA tool isn't all that accurate as it's designed to measure the tension of grooved auto accessory belts. I've got the same tool and my belt from the dealer when new measured out at 250 so that's the number that my tool reads and...

    Cooling fans

I only find one fan type in the Spyder parts list, the 124. Where were you searching to get the other part number?

    brakes

Doesn't Disk Brake Quiet go on the back of the pads? :dontknow: So since you have to have the pads out anyway you might as well put on the 3M tape or alternatively have the dealer ship you a set of the new pads and put them on. If you're going to do the work at least make the fix permanent.

    brakes

There is a BRP fix for this under warranty that replaces the pads with a new compound. Or alternatively you can place 3M 4611 or 4646 VHB tape on the back of the pads.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

I was not addressing your situation but rather the disabled rider that can't use the foot pedal. Frankly, for your application I'd be thinking of a cable system that links the parking brake cable and avoiding the Spyders primary braking system entirely.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Ok, there's a problem here. The typical hand brake installation is for someone that can for whatever reason not use the foot brake. So whether intended or not you have a single master cylinder system the one on the handle bar because if it fails the whole system fails. So why not T into both...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Is there some reason that the foot pedal isn't by-passed altogether? Just a direct hydralic connection to the Spyders brake system. It would seem to be the simplest solution.

    Today's ride

Whoa Nelly! Aren't you in Florida? I generally refuse to drive in to work if it's below 30 but have on occasion left at 29 as long as the forcast is for warmer weather by the ride home. I don't have riding wear that does well below 40 and in a couple of more months I'll be...

    What comes with new SE5?

Mine came with a DVD in the same pocket as the Owners manual. All about learning to ride the Spyder safely.

    SE-5 SHIFTING PROBLEMS

The problem has been seen before and there are several threads about it. It's most likely the gear position sensor failing, though there are other causes. Hopefully your dealer will be able to sort it out.

    New Backrest Option

Frankly it looks like a headrest from a car and might even have the notches on the bar that locks a headrest at a particular height.....who knows :dontknow:
