• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

28k Service - I must rant about my experience

In one of Shawn's latest videos, he mentioned that they don't have the alternator shaft tool yet, either. Seems to be a mother-ship issue getting it out to the dealers. That may have changed in the last couple of days. But, someone on the forum here had just had that TST done and the repair...

No, you had it right the first time - PRE-2014. 2013 and earlier.

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

Not really. Mine wasn’t. You don’t need to try to prevent a siphon or anything like that. The tank will still breath in and out just like always, but now through the modified vent line directly to atmosphere. The filter keeps the incoming air clean, plus it makes for a convenient coupling to...

Anybody using an aluminum frame enclosed trailer to tow their Spyder?

The Wide Body in the link is the one we have. Have plenty of room to get around the bike to attend to tie downs. Have Electric brakes with break-away system. They will pretty much make the thing anyway you need. I gave them the specs on the Spyder, width, wheel base, total length tip to tip etc...

2010 RTS - unexplained quitting fixed & some Engine mods.

I did a bit of forum searching. Never found an interaction like this between P1614 and the MAP sensor related air leak codes. Learn something every day. Go ride. I am.

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

Hot start/heat soak start issues is what that would correct, along with random stalling at idle. Hoping that helps. Keep at it. You’ll get this worked out at some point.

Progress! Junior, didn’t you post this morning about codes after disconnecting the battery last night? What happened to it or did I dream it?

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

Well, it’s more than JUST disconnecting the canister. Must plug the line leading up to the purge valve, too. Follow the steps that you’ll find on the forum. BajaRon has a good write up from back when.

Just Noticed a Different Noise from my Ryker Sport 900 When Shutting Down - Any ideas what it might be?

VCM = Vehicle Control Module. In other words, the ABS pump. I know that you disagree, but I also think that’s it’s just the radiator fan.

2010 RTS - unexplained quitting fixed & some Engine mods.

Yeah, visually plus what Mike said. Make sure the clamps are snug. However, I’m sensing that I’m behind on what work has already been done and the current condition. So, given some run time, and time for the system to settle down, what is the current list of codes that you have active?

2010 RTS - unexplained quitting fixed & some Engine mods.

Well, by looking over those codes, you probably do have an air leak causing P1614. Don’t bother with throttle body cleaning until you address the air leak first. I’m seeing P0106 as a prime suspect. Replace the MAP sensor hoses, run it for a few miles and see what the other codes do. The old...

2010 RTS - unexplained quitting fixed & some Engine mods.

Well, code P1614 is not about an air leak, but yes, cleaning your throttle body is the corrective action. You seem to have asked a couple of questions popping up all over the forum on this. They are all old threads. Yes, you have throttle by wire - meaning that it is all electrically controlled...

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

Yeah, it's frustrating. But history has shown that every 998, unless it was a garage queen, transitions through the same series of issues that need corrected at some point. That's why EVERYBODY with any experience knew that your MAP sensor vacuum hoses would be cracked. They all did it. That's...

My Running lights are staying on - 2020 Spyder RTL! Any ideas?

By "Running Lights", I assume you are talking about the lights on the front of the front fenders, that also double as the turn signals. The Running Lights, License Plate light, and the red Tail Lights are all on the same circuit. Powered from F1R. They are controlled directly from the ignition...

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

All fuel injected engines can become flooded. It just doesn’t happen that often. That’s why the ECM is programmed with an “engine clear mode”. BRP/BOSCH calls it “drowned engine mode”, or something like that. The 998 was especially sensitive to that for some reason. Probably why you heard it...

Rear brake caliper piston will not fully retract any ideas? Or just rebuild &/or replace?

Apologies if you have already done all of this. Most common reason for this is that the internal parking brake mechanism still needs to be retracted further. You say it compresses on the handle and the parking brake, but not sure what you meant by that. In 2010, depending on when your bike was...

Engine Trouble - intermittently won't start! Any ideas on what to look for?

That's not only normal behavior for a 998, it's also healthy behavior. Cracked hoses like that are not just a vacuum leak, they also impact the sensor's input to the fuel injection program. And it's going to need some miles for the trims to re-adjust. It’s a 2010 and needs the throttle body...
