• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone going back and forth from their Spyder to a motorcycle?

I just turned 70, and I ride both 2 and 3 wheels on a fairly regular basis. I bought the Spyder a couple of years ago when a spine problem made it impossible to ride my R1150RT any more. Now that the spine problem is fixed I am back on the Beemer. My wife won't ride on the Beemer with me, but...

    Random thought for the day

When a cat brings you an animal, it is bringing you a gift. My cats regularly bring mice, moles, and snakes. (I'm trying to teach them to leave the birds alone.) Sometimes the gifts are alive. I have learned to pay close attention to my cats when I am opening the door to let them into the house.

First time ride on my Spyder today - I think I'm gonna like it!

I finally got the chance to cross the Mackinac bridge last June (on my 2-wheel Beemer). But it was a foggy drizzly morning with a stiff cross wind. Not advisable for beginning riders. But for myself and the group I was with, it turned out to be a nothing burger. Now a few days later, on the...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

That is what the document on the NHTSA website says. Post-2021 are fitted with stainless steel cables from the factory.

Questioning wearing Ear Plugs while riding

I tried the foamies and found that, while they block engine and wind noise, they also block too much desirable sound. I bought a set of EarPeace plugs a few years ago and wear them on every ride. They really do make riding less fatiguing.

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

No, I'm not saying that, sorry for the confusion. What I meant was this: in all my cars and pickup trucks and my dry clutch R1150RT, I've been using Mobil 1 for the past few years. Now that I have the Spyder with its wet clutch, I was reluctant to use an automotive Mobile 1 oil; so I chose...

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

Thanks for the clarification. I've been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for a few years now (love the Wal-Mart prices), but the Spyder is my first vehicle in a very long time with a wet clutch.

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

Are you using the 4t, or the regular automotive oil?

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

Yeah, I really like Mobil 1 15W50 in my 2003 oilhead. But Mobil 1 10W30 has friction modifiers, and I'm not sure I want to try that in my Spyder with its wet clutch.

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

Very very interesting. The bogus Castrol "Full Synthetic" claim got me to wondering about some other brands. Apparently, Rotella T6 also has a Group III base, despite saying "Full Synthetic" on the bottle. That's not to say it doesn't work well, because lots of trouble free miles in various...

87 Octane seems to work just fine

I ran one tankful of 87 in my '24 Spyder RTL, just to see what would happen. There have been times in my motorcycling journeys that 87 was all I could get, and I wanted to know ahead of time how my Spyder would run on it. It did fine, I could not tell any difference between 87 and 93. I didn't...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

I installed SlingMods passenger armrests on my '24 Spyder RTL. It was a pretty easy job and they look good.

My Motohorn died on me this weekend

One of the guys on bmwsporttouring.com did some amazing and thorough investigation when choosing horns to replace the anemic beeper on his 2001 BMW R1100RT. It's a long read but very informative. When I get around to replacing the horn on my '24 RTL I'm going to make use of it. Find it here...

Has anyone tried Reverse Brake Bleeding on their Spyder? Was it effective?

We need to distinguish between flushing (pushing new fluid through the system to force the old cruddy fluid out) and bleeding (getting all the air out of the system). If you do the former correctly you may not have to do the latter. To do flushing I like to replace the bleed nipples with Speed...
