• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Progressive shocks on my 2009 GS

Progessive? Is the word used as a brand name or a feature of their design? If you want progressive springs you will need some pretty tricky tapered steel bar. Or you could do what I did, install Fournales units. They use air for the spring. Each time you halve the travel, the spring rate...

    Valve Check

Valve Clearance Checks The big, dangerous, problem with these motors is the valve clearances reducing; caused by the valves wearing the seat. At least in theory. When the clearances (measured cold) are too tight, the valve (when hot) may be held off the seat and it will burn. I do not see that...

    I finally got them!

Just Do It I hope that by now you have done the deed. I found on my RS (2009/10) that it was a piece of cake except that my front spring units are not standard. There is no advantage in working with the "frunk" in place. On the RS it requires 6, 6mm bolts to be undone, removal of the cable to...

    HORN REPLACEMENT

quick fix at small cost 2 years ago this was my first mod. Got a disc horn. drilled a 6 mm hole on upper front left side panel support (behind fuse box). mounted horn so it is concealled by panel. Ran a fused wire from the battery forward to horn. Mounted a new auto horn relay. Removed leads...

    RS Overheated - no coolant

Overheating I have posted on this problem several times. My 09 RS SM had this problem 3 weeks ago with 25k klm on the clock. Problem may have been caused by mechancial distress (pressure) causing tank to rub on frame. Problem may have been started by a loose or poor connection between loom and...

RS- adding a coolant fan switch

Fan Switch Yes and there is a third way too. The horn circuit is accessable. Power is on a 10 sec. delay-off. Use a piggy back spade connector and take a feed from that to a 2 pole switch (mine has a LED tell-tale). Wire an earth for the tell-tale. Take off the Tupperware, open the loom to the...

    Checking rear tire pressure

Engineer's identity He is the same guy at BMW that designed my R 1100S. Try to change a fuel filter. Try to check battery fluid. Wonder why he specified 16 mm nuts on the Telelever. My guess he was fired when BMW put the valve stems on the spokes so you could access them. CanAm gave him...

    KUHMO Tires

car tyres The Spyder is not a motorcycle. It cannot run bike tyres. It is not a motorcycle under the UN standards. It is a great thing, but it is not a motorcycle by design or dynamics. Reality may be suspended in PA. Shame Ben Franklin is not there to run the place, He was no fool.

    Tires

car tyres What is the problem with car tyres? As much as I like my RS SM I know it is not a motorcycle. I have been riding daily since 1968. Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis, Kawasakis, BMW and even a Moto Martin. I have had 2 Goldwing sidecar outfits and an affair with an XS1100 outfit. In this time I...

    Coolant Reservoir

another failure same thing happened to me last week on an 09 RS SM. It is winter here in Oz so heat stress is not expected. Best guess isthat it started with a poor or loose connection to thermostat housing which let pressure and heat build up. My tank split just as described. The dealer said...
