• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can you show us how you installed the power cables for your heated gear?

A relay is a switch. That's all it is. Power from the battery goes to the relay, which, when triggered, turns "on" the power which goes to the fuse box. Your heated gear is attached to the fuse box. (You could, of course, not use a fuse box. Then you'd put a fuse between the relay and the...

Can you show us how you installed the power cables for your heated gear?

As Sarah says, I followed Warm and Safe's directions. However, I installed a fuse box prior to the heated gear. The Fuse box is triggered by a relay when the ignition is on, sending power to the box. The wires for two sets of heated gear run under the tupperware to the left of the handlebars...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Nothing on the Spyder. But I did dig out my "Warm and Safe" heated gear: sock liners, trouser liner, torso liner, and glove liners. Sunny today; we'll see about tomorrow. In the 40's I expect. Get some riding in while toasty warm. Snow in the forecast for later this week here in central Oregon...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Finally got around to installing driving lights on the fenders and cleaning up the mess o'wires from previous projects: heated clothing liner and garage door opener among them. All works well, I like the lights turning with the wheels, and my garage door opener still works. I'm not difficult to...

Looking for a good GPS - Touring, no off road. Considering Garmin Zumo XT - thoughts?

You raise a good question. One to which I have no clear answer. My Spyder came with a Garmin 590. I updated the software to that found in a 595. (Easily done. Search the interwebs) The mount was at the center of the handlebars; a terrible location, requiring a downward look to see what it's...

Be careful of advice... Never Grease your Sway Bar bushings!

Well said. Now consider saying it LOUDER! Unfortunately, the ones who most need to hear your thoughtful comment are the same ones who will not. "There are none so blind as those who will not see."

Want bright LED Turn signal indicator lights - where to tap into their circuit without CANBUS yelling at me?

See how I complicate things?! Thanks for clarifying. I'm getting my brain wrapped around CANBUS. And I see my way forward with the indicator lights. Multiple thanks.

Want bright LED Turn signal indicator lights - where to tap into their circuit without CANBUS yelling at me?

Hmmm. This is all helpful. Thanks, guys. I thought about a cluster shade, and tried that with a temporary one: card-stock and tape. My cluster might be different from yours, GWolf; the improvised shade made no difference and, with the sun behind me, the signal lights are invisible. Sun...

Want bright LED Turn signal indicator lights - where to tap into their circuit without CANBUS yelling at me?

The instrument panel turn signal indicators are impossible to see in the daylight. I've read that a few folks have mounted LEDs elsewhere on the bike, either on the "dashboard" or on the mirrors. My question is where to tap into the turn signal wires. Turn signals use CANBUS to communicate...

I guess I'm just not a Twisties guy!

I enjoy twisties AND I enjoy scenery, smelling flowers, listening to streams and waterfalls, ignoring fast-food restaurants and tourist traps. So I end up stopping a lot, and getting off the bike. Increasingly, as my body intensifies its rebellion, stopping and getting off is ever-more frequent...

I guess I'm just not a Twisties guy!

I loved twisties when on two wheels. I didn't mind them on my Spyder nor did I enjoy them. Until. Here on SpyderLovers are a number of threads about best practices for handling curves without dropping speed to 30 MPH (or even to the recommended speed on the yellow signs.) A recent long trip...

Wish I had not gone with a Vredestien Tire

Vredesteins in the front improved handling immediately. Less noticeable change when Vred installed on the rear. Kenda? Glad to get rid of them all.

Can the OEM "fog lights" become conspicuity lights with a bulb change?

To answer my own question: Yes. Found some amber H8 bulbs from, where else? Amazon, of course! The original halogen was 35 watts; replacement LED is also 35. Does just what I want: bright yellow light aimed forward and down. One step closer to my buddies and their Yamaha and BMW ADV bikes with...

Compile a list of BUDS owners who are willing to help, by location?

So far I've managed to avoid the (lousy) dealer nearest to me. I haven't had to use BUDS, either. Got me thinking: is there a list anywhere of those members of SL who own BUDS software/hardware and are willing to help us non-owners out? I would gladly pay for the privilege. Not a fortune...

What might this plug attach to? (Rear of fog light globe)

About to replace the H8 globes/bulbs in the fog light fixture. Looking at the manual, doesn't look difficult. In the photos in the manual (see attached) there's a plug hanging out, literally, with no indication to what it attaches. Might anyone be able to enlighten me as to its...

1900 miles, Four States, One Province, and one rude remark

Greetings Had a great time, solo, from Central Oregon to South East British Columbia via Washington and Idaho. Then on to Bozeman, MT before looping home via Lolo Pass, Lewiston, ID and the delightfully twisty, much elevation gained and lost route, South through Washington and North East...

So what's the difference, apart from the name? (Coilover springs)

Thanks Ron. We shall see. "later model take-off RT shocks" means what? A quick look on fleabay shows a few RT shocks which seem to divide out into two groups: pre-2020, i.e. 2019 and older, and post-2020, i.e. 2020 and newer. Did something significant change between 2019 and 2020 model years? I...

So what's the difference, apart from the name? (Coilover springs)

We will see. I based my choice on two folks here, who seem to have left the forum. They described lengthy trial and error approaches, changing various parts, seeking a good compromise. I looked for a 325 pound spring; no could find. Settled on 350. I suspect the ride will indeed by much firmer...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Rode into the Big City, Bend, Oregon, for two doctor appointments. Inhaling smoke from fires NorthWest of us. Hot, sunny day. And I gave the bike some fuel from Costco and splurged, buying 92 octane. Not sure the bike appreciated it.
