• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Rear tire alignment issues

Good to know. Thanks. Although I have been successfully working on my own motorcycles for the last 30+ years, I think I have to admit defeat when working on the Spyder. This is a different animal and I'm struggling more than I should. I think the final straw came when I managed to break the...

    Rear tire alignment issues

My front pulley. Is this the problem one?

    Rear tire alignment issues

I'll double check to see which front sprocket I have. The too tight belt was from mile 0 to 600. The tech at 600 corrected the situation. Now that you mention it I do remember him saying something about a TBS on the belt tightness.

    Rear tire alignment issues

My RS SM5 Spyder was a left over 2010 model. But the 600 mile dealer service was done in May 2011. Since that serice was only about 8 months ago I wasn't in a big hurry to get in for the 6K miles service. The dealer that did the 600 mile made it clear he's never seen a Spyder with valves out...

    Rear tire alignment issues

Was that service bulletin after May 2011? That was my 600 mile check, and the mechanic said everythign was up to date at that point. Can I eyeball the front to see if it has a problem? How would I recognize an issue on that pulley? It was tracking straight before the tire change. I do...

    Rear tire alignment issues

Do any of those go bad with only 8500 miles? I know when the dealer (non-selling dealer) did the 600 mile service he said the original tension was set extremely tight. But he did correct that at the 600 mile service. I made more attempts this evening. I finally got it pretty stable while up...

    Rear tire alignment issues

Not going well so far. The space around the pulley was uniform, so good there. But even with it up in the air and running the belt either wants to hug the inside of the pulley, or head towards way off to the outside. I cannot get it to stay 1 to 5 mm away from the inside of the pulley. Small...

    Rear tire alignment issues

I've learned repeatedly how bad distractions can be while working on bikes. I'll give this another shot after work today. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

    Rear tire alignment issues

I believe it's the same all the way around, but will need to confirm that tomorrow afternoon.

    Rear tire alignment issues

This is not what I consider to be flush. So you're saying I need to take it apart and try again?

    Rear tire alignment issues

Interesting. I did have to ride it backwards in a circle, so sounds like that could have contributed to the amount it was off.

    Rear tire alignment issues

Recently changed the rear tire using Lamonsters method. That went well, but for some reason the alignment is no longer the same. I've tried to tweak it according to the service manual, but not getting the desired results. If I set the belt to have 1mm of space from the pulley, the belt walks...

    Rear wheel removal questions

I'd love it if my wife's RS stock rear tire got 14K or even 10K. She has 8,500 miles and has worn through the first two levels of wear bar. Has about 1mm until reaching the final wear bar. Never done a burnout. It lasted about 8 months since new which is slightly better than I usually get on...

Does the engine fault code stay in the computer?

Got the call from the dealer today. They did see the P0505 code in buds and took apart the idle air unit he installed last month. Found no problems with it. He did notice that the throttle body was out of sync. He adjusted that, took it for a ride and it seemed fine. I find it incredibly...

Does the engine fault code stay in the computer?

Thanks, good to know. I did not want to take it all the way to the dealer only to find out they could not find anything. I do hope these trips to a dealer for mechanical issues end soon. 3 times in 7 months since new is not a good track record.

Does the engine fault code stay in the computer?

Last month I had the RS SM5 repaired after it went into limp mode. The code was P0505 for the idle air Control Valve. 30 days and 1,000 miles later it is once again intermittently going into limp mode with the same code. Since it is intermitten I can't be confident I will get it to the shop...

Limp Home - Oil Pressure Sensor?

New IACV installed and everything is back to normal. All done under warranty (of course) and dealership experience was about as good as it could have been.

Limp Home - Oil Pressure Sensor?

Limped the bike to the dealer this evening. Dealer said they would take a look then call Can-Am. I asked if Can-Am was good about covering warranty issues. Service guy said they are good about covering the Spyder because they are having so many problems with them. Told me they have three...

Limp Home - Oil Pressure Sensor?

I don't anticipate warranty being a problem on a 5 month old machine. Guess I'm going to the dealer.

Limp Home - Oil Pressure Sensor?

Thanks for the sequence. The code is P0505 which works out to be Idle Air Control System Memory Difference OR Idle Air Control System Failure. Does that mean anything to anyone? First step in the manual says to check the connection, which would be too good to be true if that's all it is...
