• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. This just blows my mind.

Yesterday I installed my new comfort seat & R-35 saddlebags. The seat went well, the bags not so much.

I opened the box and laid everything out to make sure it was all there. I opened the bag of fasteners and checked to see if all were there. Everything here and ready to go. I left the bigger parts in the bags and opened them as I needed them, big mistake. Well needless to say, when I get down to the last part (RH turn signal bracket) I open the bag and low & behold, THERE ARE NO :cus: CONNECTORS ON THE WIRES THAT HOOK UP UNDER THE SEAT. The metal part that's crimped to the wire is there, but the outer plastic part that weather proofs it and locks the pieces together was not, very odd.

After I calm down a bit I go in the house and tell the wife about it and she says, "why didn't you check everything before you started taking the Spyder apart".:banghead: I bite my tongue and grit my teeth and with a forced grin I say, "I did, who would of thought there wouldn't be CONNECTORS ON THE :cus: WIRES".

Today I call the dealer and he says no problem, send everything back and I'll order you a new set. Excuse me, did you just say send it all back, I just need the one turn signal bracket.

I called BRP and that is their policy, send it all back no matter how small the issue. That is complete insanity. In my case it is not that big a deal, I'll just get a couple of connectors and fix this myself. But what if I have the bags for awhile and discover a leak or some other defect I can't fix. Do they really expect the customer to remove everything and send it all back. There is quite a bit of time one has invested in installing these saddlebags. Not a terrible job but not exactly a walk in the park either.

Completely mind blowing.

I agree. Doesn't make sense. Why not have the dealer order a replacement kit, take out the connectors and return everything else? That would have made more sense than some bureaucratic nonsense.

The ideal factory response should be: "Yes sir, we will send a replacement package overnight to you with a prepaid stamp for the return of the balance as soon as is practical. May we assist in anyother way today...?"

Of course, that makes too much sense doesn't it...?

They should send the replacement part--not have you return the whole set for another one. This is a waste of time on both ends of the deal.

In 2009, when the computer went out on the new RS at 1500 miles, my dealer took the computer out of a showroom model and replaced ours. We had the Spyder back the next day. No further problems.

Why not have the dealer order a replacement kit, take out the connectors and return everything else?

If I would have bought this through my local dealer they may have done this for me. I ordered these online to save about 250 bucks. I know, shame on me.

But even if the dealer was willing to do this they shouldn't have to. This thing has a part number (708 300 257 RH Turn signal light support). Why assign something a part number if you can't get it individually.

I wonder if I tried to order the part and pay for it would they send it out? I think I'll call the dealer later to find the answer to this question.

Does anybody know the manufacturer of these connectors BRP uses. I did a search online, like looking for a needle in a hay stack. I could probably ask one of the vendors that sell light kits on this site and they could tell me. I'll do that later also if I don't get an answer.

If John at Elka or Reggie at TrickLed or I at Seal FloorBoards or any of the other great service oriented vendors on SpyderLovers did that, we probably wouldn't be in business long.

Ride in comfort,

It sounds from your post that your dealer placed this order with BRP. If that is the case then one would naturally expect that the dealer take responsibility for dealing with their supplier (BRP in this case) to acquire the missing connectors.

I would ask the dealer to order another "kit", remove the required connectors for you, and then return this 2nd kit back to their supplier for a refund because of .... :yikes: .....missing connectors. If your dealer does not want to do this on your behalf they may be sending you a gentle message of just how much they back their product and how little they value your business.

My BRP R-35 bags came without the two plastic replacement grills with the holes for the mounting bolts and a missing reflector lens. I had driven 180 miles round trip to have them installed at the dealer where I ordered them. The dealer said he would do his best to get the parts and send them to me. When he contacted BRP they wanted him to send back the entire (already installed) kit and only then would they send another. He told them that would mean I would have to travel there twice, once to have it all removed, and again to have it reinstalled. BRP didn't care in the least. I then tried to buy the missing parts from BRP online. BRP does not sell parts for accessories. :dontknow: I paid over $800 for this kit and was out of luck. I had to order the lens from Givi and make two replacement grills. Terrible service from BRP on a very expensive item.

I have also heard from a few people that BRP doesn't sell individual replacement parts for accessories.... but have not confirmed this with BRP or a dealer. I know with machines we use at work, the law used to state a company had to supply parts for their products for 7 years from the last date of manufacture of the product...... maybe things have changed or it doesn't apply to accessories, etc......

Seems wrong to me not to be able to buy individual parts.

Thanks for the offer Dan, I may take you up on it. Another Spyderlover member, SPYD1, thinks he has the connectors I need. If not I will give you a call. And again thank you, I love the people on this site.

I just called my dealer to see if I could purchase the part I need. No go. The guy even checked with a BRP rep that just happened to be in the store when I called and he said they don't sell parts for accessories. Well guess what. I just bought my last accessory from BRP. All aftermarket from now on.

To be fair, my dealer sells all makes (BRP, Yamaha, Arctic Cat, Polaris, Victory) and they all have the same policy when it comes to accessories. Send it all back for replacement, no individual parts.

Okay-- just let me know. Each side of the connection actually uses 4 parts which assemble into either a male or female connector. They are made by AMP/TYCO...... I ordered like enough for 50 sets.....

A good dealer gets around this by ordering another kit, then swapping the parts when it comes in, the returning the second kit, with the defective part swapped, to BRP as faulty. That's what my dealer did with my cargo net system, which was already installed.

same deal with rear lens cover, whole assembly only

I ran into the same problem with the rear lens cover. It went missing because of bad design/install. I wanted to buy just the cover and was told I needed the whole assembly. Luckily It was still under warranty so the dealer took care of it on the next service .

CATCH-22

FIREFLY, you are correct....sort of anyway.....they have to make them....they do not have to sell them.....Welcome to Corporate America/Canada etc......mike...

I actually asked my dealer if he could do that. He said he couldn't (wouldn't) because he would then have to purchase the second kit. He said BRP wouldn't allow the return of the second kit for credit, they would only replace it with a new kit. The dealer would then be stuck with an extra kit he didn't want.

You're right, only a very good dealer would do this for a customer.

Folks please beware if you purchase an expensive BRP accessory such as the saddlebags, HIDs, fog lights, etc, it sure looks like you cannot get replacement parts for them from BRP once the item is off warranty.
