• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

one of the morons at the shop where I bought my Spyder was bragging how he out ran a CHP helicopter on his sport bike between Barstow and Vegas. He claimed he was doing about 180. The next time I went in I asked about his whereabouts. The guy behind the counter said, "Jim went down. Hard."

I think Jim (?) was lying about out running the CHP helicopter. I think it was truthful that he went down.
 
I had a sports bike about 15 years ago and once saw 170mph going down a 2 mile straight near my house. When I got home I decided to sell it because I'd really enjoyed it; what a buzz! I realised that I was either going to either end up in jail of dead.

A few years later I was in a spinal rehab unit with a guy who'd had a blowout at 120mph. He is a complete paraplegic, but now races F1 sidecars.

Really..!!!

You can't out run a helicopter and much less his radio. He can brag he went 180 mph and if he did and there was a chopper he probably has a ticket to prove it..!! :roflblack:nojoke

according to the guy at the dealership, he is no longer above ground. Speed is fun, but on the highway it is suicidal.

Back at the end of 2007 when I first bought my 2008 Spyder GS, I was ridding at 4 am and I new I was speeding.
When I looked at the speedo I was going 123mph [what a rush]
I slowed down right away [lucky I was not hurt or caught] no one was on the road
About a year later my son was doing 105 on his Suzuki 1000 [like father like son Stupid ]
His insurance went so high he sold his bike
Now I stick to a little above the speed limit but I will never forget that ride it was great [don't try it]
I was already 60 when I rode it at 120
Now it's about enjoying the ride

I done over 110 on a race track many years ago and 130+ on the highway on two wheels, but now I try to stay under 80 with the Spyder. With distracted drivers and bad roads it's not worth it to go that fast.

I got my :ani29: up to 120 once. (The wife doesn't know or she would make me sell it.) It was a real rush, but it was that one time only. I was 62, BTW. Like you, I now ride 5 mph above the speed limit on highways, and absolutely stick to the speed limit in the small towns in New England where we do most of our riding. I spend enough $$ on the :ani29: without having speeding tickets to go along with it. Fines are DOUBLED in the 65 mph areas, and they are high enough already. So everybody ride responsibly so we don't get a bad reputation.
 
In the early 70's I had a Kawasaki H2 Mach IV. I would get off work around midnight. There were only two buildings between the base and the town, open desert for about 10 miles. Once I got out the front gate I would hit US 70 and open it up. 130 mph. One night I caught a glint of something as I passed the bar/package store. I looked in the mirror as a pair of headlights appeared behind me. Those headlights got closer real fast then they turned to red lights. :shocked:

The New Mexico State Trooper looked like he was 7 foot tall when he got out of that Plymouth Fury. He said he'd been waiting patiently for me. Fortunately he only wrote me for 90 in a 55. He said he didn't want to do the arrest paperwork that night. He said from that point on if he caught me doing 56 he would arrest me. Shortly after that I was deployed for an extended period. I sold the bike. Glad I did because those 750's were dangerous. Bad handling problems at speed. The trooper and I became good friends by the way.

But in the turns; a 300 pound hooker on a featherbed; handled better! nojoke

Yes I did. It was a great bike, as you said, in a straight line. 130-135 it was tapped out. I'll tell you this, if you got on it from a standstill it would stand up. Sure wish I had it today. They're worth some bucks.
 
In the mid-eighties; I had the good fortune of spending some time on one of them...
It was a 1973 H2 with a set of Triple Dencos spitting noise rearward, and (I think!) Egli one-piece bodywork...
It was WAY to much for me; but it was a memorable ride! :D

Back in the day, I rode a '67 BSA 650 Lightning. Boy do I miss those "tickle" carbs. There was a county sheriff who would hide on the road between the main gate at Ft. Polk & Leesville La. I knew pretty much all of the riders on the base. Every one of us at one time or another got pulled over by this guy who was friendly enough, and he would say "Just checking on ya to make sure you're OK, and see what you're riding." Never wrote tickets that I know of, just was interested in knowing who we were & what we rode. First time he pulled me over, I was on my way back to the base. I'd had a couple of beers at one of the fine local establishments, and when those red lights came on behind me, I thought I was gonna have to change my pants.
 
Just over 610 MPH has been my fastest . . . in the right seat of an FB-111. That was good enough for me. I know, back in the day, I broke just about every speed limit in the nation, but fortunately, I grew up and slowed down. I like breathing, to much, I guess . . .
 
A couple of years ago I was riding my GL1800 down the twisty O Hwy near my house (like a mini Tail of the Dragon) and when I pulled out on 67 South to go home I took the GoldWing up to the red line through the gears and about the time I was going to shift into 5th I see a Highway Patrol come across the top of the hill in front of me going northbound. I looked at the speed as I backed off and gently used the brakes to prevent nose dive and I was doing 125 mph. As soon has he topped the hill behind me I opened it back up for the mile back to my road and quickly turned off. It's 5 over for the most part for me from then on.

My other half had a cbr 1000 that would go over 220 mph. That thing scared me. I was always worried about him on it. He has many stories best left off the record but eventually he sold the bike to get the money to start our shop.
Three years have gone by and after I got my spyder rss he got the itch for another crotch rocket...
So now we have a 2010 cbr 1000 that he's moding just like his old one.
I told him he better keep his life insurance up bc he's going to kill himself one day.

Yellow harley in background is what he was riding until I got the spyder. He bought the cbr on Monday and the red cbr in the background is one we bought on Sunday for his brother who has been like a live in personal assistant and spare mechanic for us for three years which has been instrumental for the success of our business.

So now everyone has new bikes and we go out riding together
