• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2 nd update

My 08 se5 hesitates on occasion when RPM is below 4000, especially going uphill. I asked my dealer about the second update and they said it's only for 09s. I also heard that people start experiencing DPS problems after the second update. Any thoughts anybody?
Had 1st update done and they also did the ground wire and replaced the Y gasket. The bike has 5300 miles on it.
Thanks

Have an 08 SM5 but I had 2 updates done -- ??? about it being restricted to 09's

I had no updates done on my 08 Sm 5, 12 thou.+ miles, Unless your calling the Recall an update? That i had done.
I did have trouble with the DPS having a mind of it's own, the Recall took care of that.
I never had any hesitation.:pray:lucky i guess?

Asking the Spyder to pull uphill at less than 4000 rpm is abusing the engine. This twin was designed to run at a higher rpm. nojoke

Your dealer is mistaken. Some Spyders are not on the list for the second update, but it is not done by year, and certainly does not apply to all 2009s...or just 2009s. Nancy's 2008 PE GS-SM5 had the "Engine Performance Update", commonly known as the second update. This campaign included the evap vent hose modification and an ECM software update. Hers was listed for the update when they looked up the VIN# on the computer.

I believe the BUDS will automatically tell if you need an update and recommend installing it every time they plug it in...

That said, ever since I did the 3 main spyder fixes, I have no more hesitation, surging, backfiring and general crankiness I used to have...

  • Disconnect the purge value / Cannisterectomy - this made a HUGE difference. (BRP won't ever recommend this because it's an emissions item)
  • Clean the oil out of the airbox and stuff some foam in there - Maybe cleaning it made me feel like it ran better... (btw, my dealer said that BRP is actually recommending this now in a tech bulletin)
  • Ride harder! She comes alive with higher RPMs. To heck with the noise, downshift!

I did the Spyderpops Missing Air Dam... at long lights it seems to take longer before it gets hot

And I needed plugs at only 3k miles... from babying it too much :opps:

So that all said, describe everything to your dealer. Be firm and let them know that you don't like the way it's behaving and that they need to fix it. They should be able to help, if not they know where to go for help. If they still can't help, come here and someone will recommend a dealer who can ;)

Outside of dealer help, the Cannisterectomy made such a big difference on both of our spyders that I can't help but recommend trying it out. Here's Lamont's video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huC0pXtPcug[/ame]

It's painless and very easy.

The 2nd Update modifies the behavior of this valve and relocates where the evaporation cannister vents to. Eliminating it makes the update unnecessary. Eliminating the cannister also makes relocating the vent unnecessary, but still a good idea if you don't like the smell of gasoline... or spontaneously combusting spyders

(p.s. I like lists! :joke: )
