There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 RT-S Drive Belt Change (Replacement)

After doing a search and reading all the headers on about 10 pages of the DIY forum, I can't find out how a belt change is done. I even checked my shop manual. It tells me all about belt adjustments but, not how to remove it from the machine and put a new one on. I know how to remove the belt from the rear wheel and in fact, how to remove the rear wheel. I'm looking at a tire change soon and I have a stone through the belt so, I'm thinking "two birds with one stone". SO....after the belt is off the rear sprocket, what is involved with getting it off the drive sprocket? If there anyone knows were previous instructions are, you can help by just pointing me there. FWIW, I also searched YouTube.

I just need to know what is involved in removing the belt from the drive sprocket.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

You need to remove the upper, middle and finally the lower panel on the shifter (left) side of your bike. The lower panel sits just above the drivers foot peg and shifter if you have an manual shift. The front sprocket sets behind this panel. With the belt off the back sprocket you should be able to easily remove the belt from the front sprocket and replace with a new belt. Lamont has videos on removal of the rear tire and axle without disturbing the belt tensioner adjustments.:clap::clap:

Hope that you find this helpful. Also check with finless Bob's videos, would think that he has this covered somewhere in all that he has done.

NEW BELT

:hun:...considering what a new belt costs.....IMHO, I would wait to put it on until you actually have issues with your old belt......They are much tougher than you think.......................Mike

I just put a new belt on a 2013 RT for a friend. We purchased the belt from PowerSports Warehouse for $239.00. It took about 2 weeks to get the belt. The original belt was tension-ed by me after replacing the tire with a the Sonic Meter. The original belt was damaged and needed replacement but she needed the bike to ride while we waited for the replacement. When the new belt arrived I did the remove the shock bolt and ACS linkage trick. Installed the new belt and checked the tension. As I had just set her belt tension 3 weeks prior to 990 nm I did a check of the new belt. Alignment was good but the New Belt tension was 1685 nm. Bottom line is you might as well just loosen the axial nut loosen both adjusters the same number of turns and forget about removing the shock bolt.

Thank you all for the replies!

Thank you all for the replies. As far as the stone in the belt is concerned, I know the belts are not cheap but they are cheaper than a new belt PLUS a towing fee PLUS the inconvenience of not being able to choose where it lets loose! While the belt is half off....I figure it would be prudent to change it AND add a guard. I KNEW there'd be trouble when the town in which I live, in their infinite wisdom, decided to tar and chip every road that leads to my home this past summer!

FYI, my RT-S is an SE-6 so no shifter levers to deal with!

Finally, Doc Riverside has kindly agreed to help me yet again so, by the time I have all of the materials to do this job, I should also know how to do it!
