Got the girlfriend a leftover 2019 RT earlier this year and recently she wanted a few accessories added to it. Not being familiar with the Can Am design I did what every good boyfriend does... I told her to take it to the dealer... She wasn’t happy with the BPR connect system as a GPS and I had a Garmin 590 that I wasn’t using anymore. She also wanted a Showchrome trunk brake/turn signal light added. The labor to install those two items was in excess of $400 plus $249 for the Can Am version of the Garmin Mount. I figured I’d take a look to see how difficult it really was. With the help of a few videos I found here I had most of the body panels off in less than an hour. Using the stock Garmin motorcycle mount and a mounting bracket I ordered from Lamonster, I had the GPS up and running in under an hour. The brake light kit took about another 45 minutes and about an hour to button it all back up. The only issues I had...
1. The top two bolts on the handle bar are a bugger to remove. Thank goodness for heat guns and breaker bars..
2. I never did get the connection from the GPS to the bikes audio input in the frunk to work correctly... connecting her phone directly to the 3.5” Jack, the volume on her phone has to be maxed just to barely hear it through the speakers and never managed any better with the 590 connection. For the time being we just have the GPS connecting to her Packtalk headset. (Directions and music from GPS work fine that way). I’ll save the audio input issue for another day...
3. She wanted a USB charging port added to the glove box so I ran the garmin USB cable to the side of the glove box, drilled. 1” hole to feed the cable through and sealed it with a grommet and it almost look OEM. However I”m a little concerned that the box might get to hot to leave her phone charging all day.
Any advice? Also she’s making a list of other things she wants added...<sigh>
