It was time for a new rear tire. After installing the wheel/tire back on the bike, I left the axle loose while I adjusted the runout on the drive belt with the bike started and idling in 1st gear, rear tire off the floor. Getting ABS/VSS faults. the two codes produced are C003- and P2545. The P2545 is nothing more than the illumination of the VSS light in the dash.
The C003- according to the manual represents a string of rear ABS sensor potential problems. With the axle nut loose, the fault code was likely from the ABS sensor mounting plate being loose, too much air gap on the sensors. Got the belt adjusted well, torqued the big nut and the gap returned to within the 1.30-1.90mm spec at about 1.80mm without having to mess with the spacers used to set the gap at the factory.
Now I cannot get the codes to clear. I have not put the bike on the road because the fault dumps the ECU into LIMP MODE. I checked the continuity of the two rear sensors at the first connectors and both read 0.35 ohms.
My question to the forum: Do I need to ride the bike enough distance to satisfy good sensor inputs from all three wheels spinning to get the fault to clear?
