Adding tire lettering gone bad

So I bought tire lettering for the wife's Ryker from tredwear.com. Over the weekend I attempted to put them on. Turned out to be a.) not so easy, and b.) once on, they looked like garbage. I followed the instructions to a tee too. Now I have remnants of the glue on the tire that just won't fully come off without damaging the sidewall.

You're not the first person that I have heard make a similar comment about tire lettering.

How about trying a Dremel tool with an appropriate grit grinding/buffing disc.

Use some kerosene or mineral spirits to get the glue off. If that don't work then try some WD40

I think I would try WD40 too. Lesson learned the hard way. Never understood the whole tire graphics thing, but to each their own I guess. Hope the gunk comes off for ya

I’ve had luck removing stubborn adhesive with a product called “goo gone”. It’s a household cleaner with a strong orange scent. Be careful with kerosene, WD 40 or any other petroleum based product. Your tires are, as I’m sure you know, rubber. Oil softens rubber and will degrade it.

WD40 and magic eraser! I got all kinds of sticky decal stuff off when I was racing. Magic erasers are awesome. Then goobgone and wipe off and polish. Other option, get the tire close to a curb and scuff it off on the curb!

I'm another one in favor of magic eraser although you do have to be careful with it. I looked into how it works, it's actually melamine foam and when it hardens its microstructures turn as hard as glass so its actually an abrasive that rips everything off.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to try the magic eraser and WD40 and let you know. It's only the 1 tire. It failed immensely so I stopped the process before I ruined another tire. Next set will have the raised letters already. Lesson learned.

Soooooooooooooooooooo using to clean the windshield is a no-no :gaah::roflblack::roflblack:..... Mike :thumbup:
