• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Almost Done With The Ryker's Add-ons

Between yesterday and today, I added several items to my 2022 Ryker Sport, to include:
Aluminum “chin” radiator protector, aluminum lower A-frame splash guards, and a slightly taller and wider adjustable windshield. The only thing remaining for this go-around is an aluminum engine/CVT protective skid plate.

Even tho’ my Ryker shares in my daily transportation needs, my fun-stuff allowance for it needs to take a break - or - maybe that should be "brake."

First time this year I left the heater running the whole time I was out in the garage. Little nippy out there today.

Did you tackle the oil and filter? Changing the oil filter is a messy job, at least for me. I just stuff paper towels all under and around it best I can.

No, haven't done that yet. But just seeing the way the filter housing is buried, it could be a mess. A little worse now with some of the stuff that's been added in that area. Even before that, I could see that the frame cross piece, steering linkage, and coolant hose were already going to cause some interference problems. I can get some of the oil out of the filter assembly before I pull the filter with a Mity-Vac, but it's still going to be interesting.

Frankly, with 4315 miles on the machine now, I don't believe I really need to be in too much of a rush to get it changed. The bike had been serviced by a dealer late last fall, including an oil/filter change, and she probably didn't put much over 1000 miles on the machine up until I bought it with 3320 miles on it.

I added a few more miles on it earlier this morning when I headed off to the DMV to get my license renewed. 28 deg. and the heated grips work well.

BTTB? Nah, not really. A lot of it is just a mental thing. The heated gear I have works pretty well at keeping cold at bay. Now, back in my working days and commuting by bike, I studded up the tires on my KLR so I could keep riding when there was snow and ice on the roads. No snow and ice? I'd ride my Concours.

I only had to put them on the KLR for a couple of years. Global warming kinda took over and snow of any consequence here in the Richmond area just seemed to go away. If I wanted to play in the snow, I'd head over to the mountains of WV.

Been twice, first time was on a bike in ’74. Was living in Lynchburg, VA at the time. Ran into snow coming back somewhere in one of the Carolinas, so retreated to the cab of a small Toyota truck (with another rider, and the truck's driver) for the night. The truck was being driven by another who went down with us but didn’t ride. Needless to say, for three crowded in that small cab, it was one miserable night.
 
Just finished installing the SE Performance skid plate...... and boy, was that fun. :roflblack:

Ran the front of the Sport up on car ramps and jacked the back end with a small jack with a jack stand in place as back-up.... and yes, I was being wary of the wires back there.

The fun parts were keeping the well nuts in the frame rail holes (dabs of super glue worked) and elevating and holding the plate up into position while installing the mounting hardware. A very taut bungee cord stretched between the lower A-arms took care of that. Of course, there had to be one bolt with a slight misalignment problem and refused to easily slip into place. It eventually gave up the ghost and the threads took hold so it could be snugged up with the rest of the hardware.

That was the last item, so now all we do for a while is just ride.
