• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Antenna removal

What tool (or hammer) do you use to remove the antennas on the RT. I can't get a wrench on the nut base and not sure if it would work if i used a set of vise grips/pliers. :dontknow::helpsmilie::gaah::cus:

I've removed the anntenna with a simple pair of pliers. Remove the boot, and unscrew the antenna just like a car's.

:clap:Funny ,I can't help it but I take her:spyder2:to the car wash and my antenna is gone:joke: when I come out:joke:

Vise-Grips; one of the 2 most essential tools!
If it doesn't move, and you need it to: Vise-Grips!
If it moves, and you don't want it to: Duct-Tape! :roflblack:

I haven't tried this, but I would think that those new fangled sockets that allow the bolt (or in this case - antenna) to pass through the socket would work very well for this.

I just had this issue. I tried a 7mm wrench and all it did was spread the open-end. Could not get closed end on it. What finally worked was a needle nosed vise grip on the nut and a regular vice grip on the metal sleeve just above the nut. Turned them together and it came loose. Like you I was surprised that they would use the same torque to attach the antenna as they use on a lug nut. :banghead:

After the loss of many antennas, they use Loctite and a lock washer.

Loctite on the antenna ??

I assume you're serious and not making a joke. (I just read the post about the left handed metric adjustable wrench)
I wonder if loctite on the antenna contributes to the less than stellar CB performance ?

After the loss of many antennas, BRP issued a service bulletin calling for them to be installed with a small drop of Loctite on the last thread only, and a star washer. I'm sure many got more Loctite that was called for, and suffered in the translation. I am not sure about the CBs, but the radios sure did for some riders. BRP changed the antenna base design, so this may no longer be an issue, but if you are having trouble, it would be worth investigating...or just switch to the J&B CB antenna and base.

Too much of the grippy stuff will insulate the antenna against the rest of the system and screw up the performance...

In attempting to remove the antennas on my 2012 RT, I found enough loctite to prevent removal without taking the rear panel off and enough to cause one of the screws to break off in the antenna block.
