• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Arkansas helmet laws

Does anyone know what the actual law is? If you look at this link the map shows that all riders must wear a helmet

https://www.edgarsnyder.com/motorcycle-accidents/state-helmet-laws/

But if you look at the details it says only those under 21 must wear a helmet.

Arkansas Motorcycle Helmet Law

Arkansas law requires motorcycle operators and passengers under 21 to wear a helmet. The helmet requirement does not apply to three-wheel motorcycles equipped with a cab and a windshield which do not exceed twenty horsepower (20 hp) when such motorcycles are used by municipal police departments.
All operators and riders, however, regardless of age, must wear protective glasses, goggles or transparent face shields.

When I lived in Arkansas 30+ years ago it was all riders.

With further research I think I have determined the answer to be "only those under 21 are required to wear a helmet".

Thanks to all who had nothing better to do but question my intelligence and belittle my quest for knowledge.

confusing....🤔

Only things is if you travel to other states you usually have to carry a helmet with you as the laws vary so much from state to state...

and if you're going to carry it, the best place is on your head. Still nice to know what the law is though.

Timely asking of the question. Just got the 2018 AR Motorcycling guide (129 pages) yesterday.

From Page 3: "In Arkansas, no helmet is required unless the rider is under 21 years old. Protective glasses, goggle or face shield is required."

No helmets for those over the age of 21. Been that way in Arkansas a long time. All surrounding states, Tn. Mo. Ms. have a helmet law.

Delaware

I love Delaware's helmet law, you must have a helmet with you at all times, but you are only required to wear it if you are 19 or younger:shocked:.

b) Every person operating or riding on a motorcycle shall have in that person's possession a safety helmet approved by the Secretary of Safety and Homeland Security (hereinafter "Secretary") through the Office of Highway Safety and shall wear eye protection approved by the Secretary; provided, however, that every person up to 19 years of age operating or riding on a motorcycle shall wear a safety helmet and eye protection approved by the Secretary.

To me: this is a "no-brainer" issue... nojoke
It doesn't take a brain to realize the importance of protecting one...
And if you choose not to, and things go poorly: you might end up not having one anyway! :yikes:

I think it was a great question
Almost no one here lives in Arkansas so what kind of answer did you expect?
Perhaps you could have called the proper state agency in Arkansas and gotten the correct answer.
Instead, you chose to ask here and then you got your panties in a wad because you didn't like the answers. If that's your attitude, maybe you should avoid asking. Or ask when you are not in such a grumpy a$$ mood?

EDIT-after reading the replies that 2Paw referred to, I can see and agree with the frustration in hearing irrelevant responses. My apologies to 2Paw-I think you had a right to get snarky with those who apparently felt the need to reply to a question that wasn't asked. Pretty common though

What I didn't expect (but maybe I should have) was without knowing if I did or not and without knowing me was post #2 by crazycanuck

why not just wear a helmet all the time regardless of the law :dontknow:

It just so happens that I do even though the law is Texas is only required for under 21. When on a trip I just like to know the laws in the states I'm going to be passing through. This forum was just one the sources I was pursuing. I asked a legitimate question and the very first response was what I considered a Smarta$$ answer which was not an answer to my question, and then to see so many people thank him for his post is when my attitude went down hill. I do not subscribe to the ATGATT theory but I do believe in wearing my Helmet at least 99.97 percent of the time. As I stated in another post if your going to carry a helmet with you the best place to carry it is on your head, unless it's an extra of course.

What does the law say about......

Where on your body must you wear your helmet or eye protection. In the early days when the laws first came out and we were young dumb and full of stupid, some of the guys would strap their brain buckets to their leg. Yes I know......but that was in the 60's, and if you remember, everyone was rebelling or burning something. Rebellion all to often in those days took precedents over common sense. Even today some drafters of new legislation overlook the finer points that render their efforts meaningless.
