BEST Warranty Information From Can AM

Spyder2012

New member
I purchased a Spyder RT in December of 2012, about two months ago. Being unfamiliar with the roadster, I purchased the extended warranty, taking it to 5 years, and also offering a number of services, such as limited towing, and hotel expense, also limited, among other things.

I have never received anything from Can Am to substantiate the extended warranty. The dealer indicated that I would get something from Can Am indicating warranty coverage. To date, I have only received a paper card with a phone number to call. The dealer says something should arrive "any time now." BRP Can Am had not responded to emails, and my calls to the warranty folks result in being told someone will contact me.

How does one get proof or even notification of this extra coverage?

Thanks

Wayne

Check and see if you have the dealer paper work they completed for your BEST warranty. All the warranty information is in the fine print on that contract. The submission of the contract is what cues them to send you the ID card.

Also, if you purchased BEST PLUS, read the info regarding it closely. Failure to do so or having a dealer who doesn't read or understand how BEST PLUS works can cost YOU money.

Hope this helps.

Please elaborate on that (any specific notes?).

Thanks

I'm guessing your question is in reference to BEST PLUS coverage?

If it is?

BEST PLUS purchasers get financial assistance from the insurer on a *predetermined number of service visits. It's *your choice when you use the assistance as long as its during the life of your service contract. For more detailed information contact the BEST PLUS provider. Their number is on your contract.

When it's processed, it will show up on your dealers service department computer. Call the service and ask them to look up your vin and see if it shows it. That's a you get other than the card.

Extended Warranty

My Extended Warranty story: Weeeeeeeel, imagine my surprise when I received the Extended Warranty in the mail last summer, one month after I purchased my Spyder RT-S. I was surprised because the salesman, the sales manager, and the finance manager were all giving me the "hard sell" to buy an extended warranty, and I declined. I was wondering if they'd slipped it in somehow to the deal, and I called the sales manager. He told me that a two year extended warranty was a promo at the time of my Spyder purchase! Never heard about that at the time of purchase, and I'm thinking that if I had purchased a two year or three year extended warranty at the time of Spyder purchase, I would have never known that it was being offered as a no charge promo at the time.

I like the guys at that dealership, and they're in business to make money, of course. But, they're also the closest dealer to us, at 120 miles. The warranty deal kind of took the sheen off of what I've thought about them as a dealership.

This is the same dealer who told me that my XM radio unit had not arrived yet, when I picked up my Spyder in July. Was there in my pickup truck a few months later, in November, and checked on the XM unit. They found it in the Shop--and the parts guy said that it had arrived in June--which is BEFORE I picked up my Spyder. Now waiting for timing, and better weather, to head over the Pass to get my XM installed. <M>

I was told....by my dealer------

I was told by my dealer that I would not get anything "SPECIAL" showing I bought the BEST plan---other than I should be able to go to ANY SPYDER DEALER and go to service and type the VIN # in and it should show clearly that the unit is covered by the Extended Warranty. I have not done that yet myself and I bought my new 2012 Spyder December 1st of 2012. I have recieved the WELCOME packet but nothing else from BRP.

Good luck and keep us posted! :D

Some good indicators of "trust, but verify". I would recommend checking with the dealer service departments and have them input the VIN to make sure that your extended warranty stuff is covered.

It sounds like there is a possiblility of the extended warranty getting lost in the shuffle if the dealer is negligent in the paperwork for any reason.

RE: trying to sell you a warranty when a freebie was offered as a promo. I would mention that issue to the offending dealership. I would also not hesitate to ask them if they would be willing to offer some free service or accessories in some amount, as an acknowledgement of the "mistake".

This is not a big issue--since you got the freebie anyway--but had you paid for the extra warranty then, it would be an issue for me. This would put you back at square one though, as to how you feel about the dealer and the "deal".

BRP Replied to email, finally regarding BEST warranty

Got an email from "service" at BRP.
There is no extended warranty coverage on my Spyder. They recommend checking with my dealer. This dealer has let me down recently on a request for a back rest, which I can purchase myself, but gave them the opportunity to make a buck.

I hope this story has a happy ending, because that warranty was quite an additional expense.

Thanks for everyone's responses.

I will keep this updated as I learn something from the dealer.

Forget E-Mails? Phone Calls Put Them "On the Spot!"
Hopefully you have a reciept or record of payment? I would call Dealer and BRP help line directly and often! Its your $$$ they have.

I don't remember being to concerned about when the warranty information showed up, but it did. The card came first. Took a few weeks, then some further information came later. I will come. I look at it this way. I am in Canada. BRP is about 3000km from me. When the new gas cap finally arrived to me, I had read for months on this website that owners from the US had been receiving it for months. That said the majority of Spyders sold are in the US. I think the ratio is 1 to 4. So makes sense to me to take care of the majority of your customer base first. As it seems you are already weeks ahead of getting stuff. No worries. It will come.

I bought my RT in October 2012 and 2 months later when I got the Card I Called the Tow Emergency phone # Just to verify with THEM that I was indeed covered if I have to call for assistence.

That being said I have never had to use my BRP, AMA, or Foremost towing in 3 1/2 years?:yikes:
