There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Bushtec Trailer Wiring to RT

For those of you pulling a Bushtec trailer do any of you have the 'how-to' to wire the Bushtec Universal harness to the RT (2014)? Also did you purchase the hitch from Bushtec to modify the Spyder hitch?

Thanks!

The 2014 has the 4 pin square plug coming from the converter. Use a volt meter or a probe light, turn the bike key to run and turn on the right signal. Now check the plug on the bike and you will have one of the pins blinking and one hot all the time. Mark the location down then turn the left signal on and mark that location. The hot is the park light, the blinkers also do the brake lights and the last one that never lit or showed voltage is ground (obvious as keyed differently from the other 3 so the plug can only go in one way). Buy a matching 4 pin plug from O'Riellys or Napa (or similar) then before splicing on the end patch cable to the harness on the trailer and see what color lights what. Trailer wiring is supposed to be white, yellow, brown and green but some use other colors.

Purchase an Isolator Relay and Universal Harness from The Electrical Connection in TN. and wire to R. Turn Signal, Left Signal, Brake, Running and ground for 5 pin required for Bushtec. Isolator Relay wires to battery + and -. Connect the four wires under the trunk and +/- to battery. Have used on a GS/RT and several metric machines for many years. Will not upset the CAN BUS on the Spyder. Don't use the BRP wiring harness.
Good luck

I pull a Bushtec trailer, but I have the '08 GS. I used the Bushtec Universal harness (purchased from Bushtec.) with the six pin connector, that fits the six pin trailer plug connector. I took the hot and ground wires from the isolator, directly to the battery, but fused the hot. The other wires are tapped into left turn, right turn, break, and running lites. (The interior light ckt. in the trailer, wire in parallel with the running lights.) the other wire is the ground.
I also purchased the heilm pin, and lock for the hitch. I wouldn't advise modifying the trailer's hitch (heilm joint)

Thanks to those who replied. Decided to take the easy way out, bought a new 2014 RT-S SM6 today and had them throw in a new trailer.

I'll sell my new Bushtec then with that $$ buy some 'safety chrome' for the RT.

Cheers, Kevin

So did you use Bushtec's Universal wire harness from your Spyder to the trailer? If so did you wire it yourself? Looking for the 'how-to' to help another friend when he buys his Spyder later this spring. Thanks

Thanks for the instructions, question about the four wires under the trunk.....how would someone access them? Are they readily accessible or do panels need to be removed?

thanks, Kevin
