CHAD Windshield - Helmet Buffeting - HELP!

Who has experienced it and what did you do about it?

Under about 50 all is usually calm. At 65 plus I get bad buffeting
and it gets worse the faster I go and if the air is dirty (heavy trucks,
cross winds, etc.)

I've tried different positions and all the way up and forward is the best
but it's like putting a sail in the wind and I still get too much buffeting.

Thinking about trying the Saeng edging.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Sam

You could try that, or perhaps a laminar lip.

How tall are you? Do you have risers on your Spyder?

Another big factor is going to be your helmet. I've got one that is horrible with the shield down--- open it up and things are as pleasant as ever.

I bet you're tall.

Unfortunately, being short waisted myself, I am of no help to you. I have experienced no buffeting with my CHAD. I even have it set low and back all the way.

Sorry my experience won't help you.

Same here, Shield down  Bobblehead, up good! HJC Sy Max 2

Same helmet, same complaint. I'll have to try shield up for kicks, but yeah, the CHAD helps a lot compared to stock, but at highway speeds, it gets a bit too loud and bobble head for me too.

Hmmmm, my husband has that helmet. He's never said anything. I'll have to ask him if he's had any troubles. He's always the passenger. So that may make a difference.

I had tons of buffeting going down to TN but I think part of it was that it was a very windy day when we left. No matter which way I adjusted it, I had head bobble. Was bad cuz my glasses were bouncing up and down. Did it w/ the 3/4 and my shorty. But once the wind calmed down it was better.

Never had that problem except for the highway down to TN.

I have had no buffering with Rifle shield and now I have a large Marcel slider and I do not have the head buffering.

I am 6'2" and sit up quite straight, as I use the 4" risers.

It is a well known fact that a full beard will cut the wind and stabilize your head. We'd probably have a real problem if we shaved. :roflblack:

I'm 5'11" but long torso (29" inseam). 4" risers. I can lean into the shield and things quiet down. If I lean down and into the shield far enough, it's like a cocoon of silence. Sure wish I could get it to work like that sitting in my normal position.

Thanks for the "laminar lip" suggestion. Forgot about them - I may try that first. I'm getting ready to go on a 2,500 mile trip end of April and hope toget the proble resolved by then!

Has anyone used Saeng's "swirl edging"? Looks like it may be distracting. They do offer a money back guarantee?!

Thanks for all of the comments ... still hoping someone will pipe in with a sure-fire solution!!!

I have a CHAD and am only 5'8"

When ryding solo, the only position I get buffeting in is with the shield all the way down and all the way forward. If I leave it all the way down and all the way back the buffeting goes away. I get a little more air flow, but it is a cleaner flow and does not rattle my head around. I ride with the shield all the way up and forward with my wife. After experimenting, that is the position that gives her the best protection with the least buffeting. I never have any problem with buffeting if she is on the pillion. Maybe you need on of those blow up dolls in the back seat. :yikes: :joke:

Chad does a good job except...

Trying to adjust it is a major pain. I have to man handle it to get it up or down. My wife has an adjustable GIVi screen on her scooter and it is so smooth to operate that it makes my adjustable seem more like a fixed screen. Any ideas?

If you think the CHAD is hard to adjust---- try the Madstad sometime....

I haven't adjusted mine for about a year now... pretty much find a good place and leave it.

I find my CHAD very easy to adjust after removing the rubber washers. It holds position just fine without them. I used to think I had serious head buffeting, but it turned out to be a poor fitting helmet. It was my helmet that was bouncing around on my head, not my head. i have no porblems now. i am 6'2" with the screen all the way up and forward.

Be Safe!
