• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Cigarette plug amperage

In 2014 and later the Accessory Fuse was changed to 5 Amp. On previous years it was 10 Amp, including Model Year 2013 (when they introduced the moveable fuse for switched or always on accessory plug).

Regardless of the fuse size the owners manuals always stated it was for no more than 3 Amps.

Not sure why the fuse was downgraded in 2014.
According to the wiring diagram for the 2014 RT the wire for the accessory circuit is 18 gauge. From what I find doing some Googling 18 ga in a 12 volt auto circuit will carry up to 10 amps up to 10 ft total length (power + ground return). I think one would be OK putting a 10 amp fuse into the box. Remember that would be 10 amps for for both plugs at the same time. If you put a 10 amp fuse in the box and run a compressor just make sure there is nothing plugged into the other outlet. You should be safe then.

I got around that concern with my trailer wiring. I have a 10 ga power lead direct from the battery to the trailer connector. This is to provide charging current for a deep cycle battery I carry in my 'tent on a trailer'. I made up a socket attached to a trailer wiring plug into which I can plug my air compressor, or any other heavy 12 volt load. I plug it into the trailer connector and have plenty power.

Attaching a plug in directly from battery works great for my batter maintainer, heated jacket or small air compressor on my 2014 Spyder RT Limited. I just have lead come out top of frunk lid to connect whichever i need to use. Since this runs directly to battery i get full power without fear of overheating other wiring. I use a 15 amp fuse inline to prevent any possible damage to Spyder.

I use a small sears air compressor in our trunk plug and it does fine. Never had any problem. Use it for tires and air mattresses and the air shock. But I leave the bike running if I'm going to use it for very long.

Does anyone suppose that I could boost my Spyder battery in an emergency through that same trunk 12 volt plug in? I carry a Reactor lithium ion battery bank kit. It fits in a very small nylon case and has wires and connectors to recharge just about any electronics that I own. This little thing can boost approximately ten car batteries. And will keep a charge for over a year. Very small kit but very powerful . Thanks in advance!

Would you buy a set of 18 gauge jumper cables?

What is the output amperage of the battery pack? Any amperage over 10 Amps is likely to at least blow the fuse, or maybe damage your wiring between the trunk and the battery. The trunk outlet is good for lower amperage output, but not suitable for jumping (boosting?). If it has some limiting circuitry, it MAY be a way to SLOWLY add some charge to a almost dead battery, but I don't think so.

The simple answer is No.

Use the battery clips that came with the unit and connect them directly to the battery.

:agree: I run my oxygen generator from there, it's basically a compressor and works just fine running full power for hours on end. Only while riding though, "keep the motor running" then "head out on the highway" "searching for adventure and whatever comes your way" :ohyea:
