• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trying to figure out things bwefore my wife bites the bullet and buys a Viper Red RT-S...I had read where what seemed to be lots of people on forums were putting "Fan Cans" or "Can Fans" on their RT's...Is there a heat issue when riding the Spyders?

Also, are there aftermarket handlebars to allow for short people to have a better feel (bent elbows) while riding?? Does Kewlmetals handles work for the RT's???

Sorry for so many questions just trying to get a grip on what we are going to have to do when we buy the Viper Red RT-S...:2thumbs:

Joe, there are many posts of heat issues with the RT...search a little and read a lot of heat comments....some vendors here sell heat shields to cover the right radiator opening...never read anything about aftermarket handlebars, but you may hear of some here.

We have had a 2010 RT since October. Here in the desert, it gets a bit warm. We have ridden in 110F ambient and have never gone over 4 bars. Not even 1/2 way up the bar scale. I wish I knew what caused some to have issues. I think it could be the coolant level being too low. With such a small radiator, every drop counts. On our 2008 SE5, the coolant was one inch below the full mark when I bought it. It ran a little hot until I topped it to the full mark (cold). Also, the engine is well surrounded by plastics, so the heat has a tough time leaving the engine area. Also, IMO, heat is relative. To some of us who have ridden for a long time, heat doesn't seem to bother us. For new riders, heat is major discomfort.

I am 5' and ride an RT. All of my other bikes have had risers on them but the RT seems to be just right for me. The seat was my only issue when I changed to an aftermarket Corbin and had it built closer for lower back support. Spyder Pops has a wonderful solution for the heat on the right side along with Baker Air Wings. I love them both and have no heat issues at all now.

Ditto.

The heat issue is personal. If you keep your feet where the stock pegs want them and where all of your normal Motorcycle gear. Most never have an issue. I mean like 95% never have an issue. Every bike puts off heat at stop lights for example... So that portion is not Spyder specific...

The issues start when folks wear no ankle supported shoes or tennis shoes and or buy aftermarket pegs. The reality is simple. BRP Designed the heat to come out the right side of the bike. When you put a foot peg in the line of that hot air. "Bingo".... Heat issue all of the sudden.

This is no different than many Harley's or even other manufactures that have an open frame. You feel the heat of the engine or radiator at some point.

Good luck and have fun! The options to reduce the heat going to your foot (If adding pegs or you like ryding with shoes and not boots) are cheap and worth every penny! :2thumbs::clap:

Harley has now got some of their Big Twins shutting off the rear cylinder when temperatures reach a certain point to reduce the cooking of the rider's leg... Are Harley's owners any more trusting of their electronic prowess than we are of BRP's?? :dontknow:

Has your wife test rode the RT-S? How does the handle bars feel to her?
Not officially...The sales guy let her do a 180 in the parking lot to see how it felt but started spewing she had to sign a waiver and all the blah-blah-blah legal stuff so no not really...She just noted that when doing that turn she had a significant reach making that turn...She will be doing one here shortly to get a "real" feel of the RT-S

Heat Issues

I DO have heat issues on my 2011 RT Limited. Never had heat issues on my BMW LT or at least nothing to the degree that is on my Spyder LT.

I ride with proper attire, but in my part of Virginia, when heat index is over 100 degrees, which it has been on and off for the past several weeks, it is HOT on the right side. Particularly with all the stop and go traffic I have to deal with. It does make a difference if you can just ride without stoping all the time.

Just received Spyderpops heat shields for both Cat and Radiator block off to hopefully mitigate some of the heat.

There must be a problem if companies are investing in solutions.
