• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Easy way to fix trunk so that it 'springs' open...

I went to the hardware store yesterday and found a very cheap and effective way to fix the latch problems with the trunk. I did read other threads on this and I think this way is the easiest...

I can post pics of what it looks like, if anyone is interested...

Basically, I got a spring, bent one end of it, put it over the 'male' portion of the mechanism (on the trunk lid), and tightened it between the nut and the washer...it's rather secure and it works like a charm!

Only cost about $1.00...

Everyone should do this...it'll make opening the trunk a lot easier...now I don't need an extra hand to open the trunk...the spring does the work for me!

 I would like to see a picture also but, according to your description, I think I know basically what it looks like. I think this is one of the essential mods every Spyder should have.

Okay, here we go...as far as the size of the spring, I sized it to just fit over the piece and it had to be large enough to NOT go into the hole where the 'male' part goes into...

Can someone please tell me how to put the pictures here...I use photobucket but none of the options are actually putting in the photos...it's only inserting the links...

I have tried direct link, html, and img. I have posted pics from photobucket on other sites...why the heck won't this one put in the actual photos??? Help!

Thanks...

It will. Just add
B] before the URL location where it's stored and [B]
after.

this may be a stupid ? but what does it do pop the trunk open all the way by itself without u touching it just turn the key >)) ??? thats a strong spring lol.............Michael

This allows the trunk to open when you turn the key...the longer you have your bike, the more you'll realize that it will no longer open unless you use two hands....this allows it to 'spring' open nicely so that you can do it with the key only...the spring has to be decently strong to do this...this works PERFECTLY!! This is a very inexpensive and necessary mod to your bike...opening the trunk with both hands is really annoying...also, the weight of the trunk and a gentle push is all you need to lock it...the spring is of perfect tension...

my trunk popped open first 2 times than i always had to use my other hand to get the trunk up.
where is a good place to get this spring? homedepot?

No, Home Depot doesn't have the right spring...I went to a local hardware store...the owner let me take some out to the bike and measure to see which would fit well...please note that you need a decent amount of spring tension...this particular spring is perfect...

Okay, here are the facts...I called and the owner said any spring board, whether it be Servalite or Select-a-Spring will have it...it is spring number 155...

Hope this helps everyone...it's an easy mod and it is truly necessary!

Is there a specific length that it needs to be? Or, is the spring number 155 the correct length?

I went to the select-a-spring website. Unless I have my abbreviations wrong- the overall length (O.L.) is 2 3/16"; the outside diameter is 3/4"; and the wire diameter (W.D.) is .062". Does that sound about right.

I purchased my spyder; but, it sits at the dealer until 3/15 or until the snow goes away. Or, I'd take a look at it and see if the dimensions I've given are correct.

Thanks

Is it still watertight?
