• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Easy way to fix trunk so that it 'springs' open...

Is there a specific length that it needs to be? Or, is the spring number 155 the correct length?

Ut oh...I hope the owner gave me the right number...I'll measure the resting length...

As far as being watertight, it will have no effect as the mechanism locks as normal...the spring is only to help it open more easily...

Will get back to everyone with the length of the spring...I'm hoping he didn't get the spring number wrong...argh, if he did!

I went to the select-a-spring website. Unless I have my abbreviations wrong- the overall length (O.L.) is 2 3/16"; the outside diameter is 3/4"; and the wire diameter (W.D.) is .062". Does that sound about right.

I purchased my spyder; but, it sits at the dealer until 3/15 or until the snow goes away. Or, I'd take a look at it and see if the dimensions I've given are correct.

Thanks

Just measured and yes...that is about right...I thought the spring was longer but it does measure to be just under 2.5 inches...the other dimensions sound right...

It's a real easy mod that will make a huge difference...just loosen the two nuts...put the spring over and bend the end of it with your choice of clamp and tighten the screws again...the spring will be secure and it will work very well...

I found it to be even easier using the method Sara (I think) used. No loosening of nuts or anything. Just get a spring big enough to slip over the nuts and smear a little silicone seal around that area to hold it when the stuff dries. If you close it, and leave it overnight, after applying the silicone, it will dry and hold it. The beauty of using the silicone is that it can be cut away if you ever have to get at the nuts.

I the spring I used, from ACE Hardware, was 3/4" OD x 2-3/16" long, as has been listed on this thread before. It now measures 2" long after being compressed.

So, NO MORE DISCUSSION, geeze!!!! :chat: EVERY Spyder owner, just go to your local ACE Hardware, buy the spring, some silicone seal (or equiv) and - JUST DO IT!

THAT'S AN ORDER!

You will be happy and blissful every time you unlock the trunk, I guarantee it. Ahhh, Nirvana :yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:
